Default More rod building questions

I looked at a couple of websites and found a great deal on some loomis blanks.
Now how do I know what guides to buy? What sizes are the standard for a 9 foot casting rod? I see on the loomis website it tells you the guide spacing, are those inches from the tip? Or inches from the handle? Thanks all!

The company that you are buying the blank from will have guide sets for that particular blank, just ask.
The guide spacing chart measures from the tip down.

How about a cork reamer? any good tips on one of those? I am thinking about making my own, but not really sure where to get the heavy grit to glue on the old blanks.
I have preformed handles and the steelhead ones are a pain to ream out without putting a soft spot in or cutting it in half.

Marty, Cabela's puts out a seperate "TACKLECRAFT" catalog. The reamers are listed in it for $5.99 each and come in three sizes. For cork handles amd rings they are indispensable.

Thanks
I overlooked them in my catalog and couldn't find any after I burned mine up using the drill to ream some handles.

I've been building rods of all types for about three years now...If you want to build cork reamers contact G.Loomis and ask them for some scrap fishing rod blanks that they broke during the test phases....Then go to anglers work shop, or order from them the grit and glue and there you go instant cork reamer....customized to fit what ever application you need. Hope this helps if you have any questions on rod building please e-mail me....Jeff
