Great game and a cool comeback. Edmonton blew the game. REminding me of a team I use to know that played well the first half and then went to lunch when it really counted. Fun to watch these boys beat the heck out of each other. Tough guys!

You know, I was just stunned when the Hartford Whalers franchise moved to NC and became the Hurricanes. Never figured it would take off.

I reckon the fact that the "rink" is an oval (NASCAR association), the players move fast, they tote sticks, and there are lots of fights made it inevitable that the sport would be embraced by my fellow rednecks.

I keep waitin', though, fer one of the players to pick up the puck, take off across the rink with it, then throw it to another player.

I have never figured out (in my head) the tropical/heatwave NHL. Carolina, Florida, Dallas, Phoenix and LA/Anaheim. Just doesn't seem right. Even San Jose seems a bit wrong though they are my second favorite team.

When the Nord-i-ques moved to Denver I was OK with that. Seemed to fit. Lord I hate the Aves.

Edmonton got caught with their guard down after good periods. Carolina remembered how to play in the last period and the Oilers didn't have an answer for them.

Conklin will start for Edmonton tomorrow night. Man, he better have it on....

Conklin is the reason they went and got Roloson. I think if the Canes keep the pressure up, they should win the series.

Game 2 is a tall order without Roloson. I think a Sabres/Oilers series would've been a more intriguing matchup, and I'm pretty sure the NHL suits would agree. It's just sweet to have hockey back and by next year with a few minor adjustments the Avs should be back in the Stanley Cup Finals. How much longer until we (Portland) get to call a team our own?

I have a soft spot for San Jose myself. I've been to a game down there and a few up in VCR. Great fans in both places. Carolina absolutely owned Edmonton. I predict it going 6 games though. That Cam Ward kid sure can play.

That's a rough spot for a cold goalie to step into. I feel bad for Edmonton, we were/are pulling for them, have to stay West. Sorry Fast Water, but the Canucks (except for Kesler and the 3 brothers) seemed to have eaten too much of the Cheez Whiz on toast this year and forgot to actually skate. Vancouver is a great place to watch a hockey game though, my 8 year old and I had a blast going to a game this year.

My favoite team has been the Red Wings for as long as I've followed hockey. Stevie Y is the best to have ever worn the "C" on a sweater.

With the Wings out of it, I don't really care who wins, but am enjoying some pretty good games. If the Oilers were to pull it out, I may get another chance to see or touch the cup if Ty Conklin brings it home like Scotty Gomez did. That was pretty exciting to see all those names engraved on it. If you're a hocky fan and ever get the chance to see the cup, don't pass it up.

as long as they're skating with left turns in that oval the rednecks will do fine. If they have to turn right, it will be just like "the big one" in turn 4 at Talledega....

I'm predicting a tie with less than a minute to play, then Carolina blows it when one of the players grabs the puck and throws it trying for a "hail mary" play.

I dunno- we rednecks certainly can't DRIVE on ice so I'd think skating on it would be just as futile for us. There's a chance we can turn the last game around if one of the Carolina players shows up wearing a jersey that says "EARNHARDT" across the back. You would see absolute pandemonium. Bonus points if the player was number 3. The "rebel yell" has been pretty much replaced by "WOO HOO! EARNHARDT! OH HAYELL YEAH!" as the battle cry of the south. I've heard it at local high school football games and even in church (once).

Truth be told it's just Southern hospitality. We dang sure didn't invent the game so we had to give our neighbors to the north a bit of a sporting chance. It would be akin to some college in Canada sending a basketball team down to Duke and blowing them out.

I dunno, dang it. I'm hoping redneck ingenuity will prevail but I ain't nearly as certain about it as I was.

What a great hockey game that was.
The thing that really struck me was at the beginning of the game, the Canadaian crowd sang our national anthem, now that's some real class there.

I didn't get to hear that part. :depressed: I was listening to Edmonton radio and only heard "O Canada". It sounded like the guest singer stopped after the first verse and let the crowd take over from there. What a performance!

We get to sing to "O Canada" at the Winterhawks games sometimes and though I don't belt it out with any heart felt emotion, it is a fun song to sing to.

Bring on Game 7, baby! Going to have to knock off a tad early to ice down the Molsons. I would've loved to been in that arena if just for 5 minutes to hear the roar. It was so loud on TV, what a treat for those who got to see that live.
