To jumping tuna: Be Very Afraid
Just finishing up the build on this Calstar Grafighter 800L (8 ft)....two layers of cork tape, and about 10 inches of cord wrap at the butt end. Also threw on a "Turk's Head".

Turk's Head:

Then I heard a faint voice from the closet...it was coming from the box of a Newell 322....saying "That's my partner...I wanna play...clamp me on." So I had to oblige & put it on...then I heard the tuna 1000 miles away start to tremble....

This thing is gonna toss a swimbait or small iron to Hawaii

Re: To jumping tuna: Be Very Afraid
Noel, don't look TOO close...the tolerances of my work are not quite up to par with your machining. However, by the time a tuna sees the sloppy thread work, he'll be bleeding just a bit....and it will be too late to report me to the rodbuilding police.

Re: To jumping tuna: Be Very Afraid
If you only knew!
Really it is a beauty!
I lost my patients with rod building when I did a very old bamboo flyrod a few decades ago and said never again!
Hope it works as good as it looks

Not to make you feel bad...but I just showed my daughter theese pics and she said " that's cute." Don't worry, she wants me to find her a hot pink blank wrapped in all black.

Re: To jumping tuna: Be Very Afraid
Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has mastered the "Turk's Head" wrap. My first rod had 'em on every eye. My fishing partner thought the dang thing had arthritis.
Do I feel a "casting contest" coming up? Longest. Most accurate. Penalty points for backlashes.

Awful purty rod, Mark. Take the gun down over the mantle now and put the pole in its place. Too nice to get all bloody, right?
