Re: Willamette Winter Steelhead
The Santiam starts getting winter steelies in November, but the run really doesn't peak until April or May, with the bulk of the run coming in around the same time the first summer steelhead start showing up. In fact, it's almost more of a run of spring steelhead, than winter as far as numbers go. But there are steelhead present all year in the North Santiam. In the South Santiam, the winter steelhead don't start showing up until January, and keep coming until May. Interesting enough, they truck them past the dam, and there has been talk of limiting the season in Foster reservoir to protect wild winter steelhead smolts.
