Shoulder CT/MRI Arthogram Results In
Well, no surgery for now--I get to continue physical therapy and go back to the doc next month. According to the tests, it was not a SLAP Lesion but a anterior-superior labral tear, which is more common for dislocations.
For folks over 30, such as me, surgery is not always the answer, especially if this is a Bankart Lesion...I don't want that surgery as I am told it is a LONG recovery.
Findings (from MRI Doc):
There is a very thin cleft of contrast intruding between the bony glenoid and the soft tissue labrum from the root of the biceps tendon down to almost 3 o'clock. There is no abnormality visible in the root of the biceps tendon. This could be either an isolated anterior-superior labral tear or an unusually long sublabral foramen. The labrum is otherwise normal. There are no signs of bursitis. There is a mildly increased signal intensity in the bursal surface of the supraspinatus tendon, consistent with mild tendinopathy. The AC joint and the shape of the acromion are normal.
Impression:
Possible isolated anterior-superior labral tear vs. an unusually long sublabral recess.

So...good news, I think? Hopefully, the PT will continue to improve my shoulder...still a big ol' PITA...

Has your Doc tried injecting it? If it works is can be wonderful. Then do the rehab.

Re: Shoulder CT/MRI Arthogram Results In
I injured my shoulder playing softball last year. Slid into home plate and had a slight dislocation. To this day it still hurts. Have had the MRI, PT, and it still bugs me. A couple aleve before a softball game gets me through though.

Re: Shoulder CT/MRI Arthogram Results In
Original problem (aside from years of sports, etc) was impingement/bursitis/rotator cuff problems, which flared up during a racquetball game. I had posted a ways back, so this is kind of a status update for those that had been through similar problems and were kind enough to offer up advice.
I have been doing PT for a month or so after an initial cortizone shot. The main relief now is that it looks like labrum damage is at a minimum, or at least not as serious as a SLAP tear, so a conservative approach is still in order unless things cease to improve.

Re: Shoulder CT/MRI Arthogram Results In
I told you no more over the shoulder back hand reverse pinch roll outs from 38'
Step back and hit a nice lazy ceiling shot to the back hand side of court, let them try and pass you down the left side when they miss and the ball comes out - forehand reverse pinch to the left side - bada Bing bada BOOM!
First time I hurt mine marked the day when I finally learned how to hit a backhand without hurting myself. Strained mine again working on the boat - I think I mentioned that. Couple Halibut and some crab pots later and no more raw tooth in the right shoulder.
Rest it up and when you're ready to get on the court give me a call for some pointers to avoid re-injury - hint - flat racquet, correct grip and no pendulum

Re: Shoulder CT/MRI Arthogram Results In
Easy for you to say!
I have had cuff scar tissue removed from both shoulders, a couple years apart. Frozen shoulder they call it. The agony that led to the cutting was no fun, but neither was the rehab. My right one is still getting better, 4 1/2 YEARS after the surgery. For the first three, I couldn't sleep on the right side.
The bad news is I still have relatively little range of motion in either shoulder. The good news is that I am back playing racquetball and it really doesn't limit my game. At least compared to my footwork, bad hand grip, slowness and general lousy strategy.
Rehab can be arduous and slow, but it will pay off in the end if you stay with it. Cortisone can work wonders for a short time, sometimes, but is almost never a good solution for the long run. Not only does it dissolve joints, but it allows you to do more than your body really should be doing. Pain is present for a reason, unfortunately.
Rest it and let the tear heal. Cutting should always be the last resort (trust me, after 15 surgeries I think I am qualified to make that statement).
Good luck!
