Default Fishin\' and crabbin\' T-bay....

Hey all,

Need a little advice fishin' and crabbin' T-bay.

I'll be out with three buddies Friday. My boat drafts about 30 inches and I haven't scouted the sand bars yet.

I was hopping to drop rings and pots in Crab Harbor and drift/mooch for a nookie, then after the tide starts going out I was planning on taking a crack at old diamondside (Sturgeon).

Any tips/advice?

Thanks in advance,

Mr F.
Friday the high tide is about 11:14 am at 8.5 ft and low tide is 0.0 at 5:56 pm. That is a lot of water running out of the bay. You will probably have a hard time finding your pots until low tide after about 1:00 or 2:00 pm, unless you have huge floats and long ropes. I would guess the Danielson type traps would drift a little if not wash away if you didnt weight them down when the water gets to running fast on that much water running. Your better crabbing tide will be the last couple hours before high tide and an hour or so after.

At a 8.5 foot high tide you should be able to run around most all of the bay drafting 30 inches. At a 0.0 tide you will see where the channels are quite easily. Keep the boat off the sand is my best advise

As far as sturgeon, I wont be much help. I know most people fish up the bay a ways for sturgeon. If you dont know your way around finding the center or west channel might be hard. The east channel in front of the oyster house at Bay city is always a popular place near the 3 piling straight out from the oyster house. It is easy to find following the east shoreline from the Garbaldi harbor. I know there are better times of the year to catch sturgeon than others in T bay. I dont know the best time, but dont think it is now. Marty would be better at that. If I had a day I would try to chase one down now.

Have a good time. Email me if you have any questions, hope I helped.

Thanks boe,

I planned to be there about 8:30 and crab till the tide turns and starts going out. I have experienced having to chase a pot into the jetty and try not to do that anymore.

As far as the hole at the dolphins, I know that hole well but have not taken my boat there yet and I don't know if the channel has changed since I was there last.

Hoping for a good time. I'll be in a 18' Seaswirl, brown and tan with a big brown bimni.

Thanks to all who reply....
