no bear
this year i worked every day, that my spring bear tag was valid. so i have no excuses, no missed shots, no wind shifts, no other hunters to blame my lack of success. just contracts, not flowing to completion. i feel the worst part is, this tag could have been in someone elses pocket, being used. some avid hunter or new hunter was without a tag, because i wasted my tag.

Re: no bear
Don't feel too bad you are in good company. I hear PETA has people applying for tags just to sit on them to.

Re: no bear
You must not be a very good contractor
Every contractor I know is really good at disappearing for days and weeks on end Its pretty easy, ya just turn the phone off, load the truck up and let the messages stack up. When you get back from hunting, and the meat is processed, the gear is put away, and your rested back up, you show back up to work.
I thought it was all part of the trade

You drew the SW Oregon tag, right? Anybody who wanted that tag enough to apply with their first choice drew it easily. Anyone who didn't draw it, didn't really want it that bad. I know a couple/few others with that tag who didn't spend a day in the field either.
Ni!
PS - I'll second what BOE said. And if you actually return phone calls, you've got a lot to learn about contracting.

Re: no bear
if this was september or later, i have enough sense to not sign contracts with deadlines. every day i show up to work the job grows by two billable days  but the deadlines stay the same

Re: no bear
How did that old commercial go
I am gonna show up, I am gonna tear all these cabinets and walls out, the place is gonna be trashed, I will then dissappear for a couple weeks, you wont be able to find me, ...dont even try Then I will show back up, and put your house back together, its gonna be gorgeous, your gonna be so happy you will want to kiss me full on the lips.
Try writing something like that in your contracts

Plumber in thigh deep water in basement:
"This will take quite a while, in the meantime gather together lot's of money."
Some bear areas I know of I would never send someone into just because the tag alder is now 18' high and they don't make semi-autos in 45-70!

Re: no bear
I feel your pain. I hunted three or four days this year and managed to miss one. Found some really good looking cuts that day covered in bear sign. Then I took on too much work and now have no life outside work for at least another month.
