Default Boat with a mind of it's own

I recently purchased a 23' inboard Jet Craft Sled. Big block and Hamilton 212 pump. Once I'm on plain the boat tends to wander off the desired course. I suspect modification to the bottom chinews would solve most of this, but wanted to ask if anyone has other suggestions or can point me to someone who can cure this problem. Thanks

If you bought it new I'd take it back to the dealer. If it's used the Jetcraft factory is in Medford, they are good guys and should be able to help you out. I'm sure that they have a web page, you might try e mailing them with the problem.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Had a friend with a similar Jetcraft. He had bought it new from the factory. It had problems with tracking and cavitating(unbelievable on an inboard boat that size). He did, however(with the strong help of a lawyers threat) convince them to take the boat back in trade for another model. The new boat, a Fastwater, runs well.

Dang and they were on my short list. Was thinking about a new boat in a few years. Guess they are off the list. Guess I'll do a repeat and get a 20+ footer of the same make.

I too own a jetcraft sled, only mines open with an outboard. I relly haven't had any major problems, but, after I got my boat, I noticed a lot of little flaws that could be corrected at the factory level. I put a little letter to the "good guys" at jetcraft and explained the flaws and how easy they would be to correct. They didn't even respond! Oh well, I bought the boat now I'm on my own. Sorry, if thats how you back up your product, it isn't for me! I call them jetcrap now!

I still have my sled, I haven't saved the $30,000 for a new one yet, and in this business I don't want a big payment over my head! But, I guarantee my next one won't be a jetcrap!

Dave;
Is the wander consistently to the left or right?? Hamilton had some nozzles that were bored off center, which would cause the boat to "pull" left or right. My 22'Northwest with a 212 pulled to the right. We (dealer and I) tried 3 different nozzles before we got one that went straight. Also might check your trim, if the boat is pushing or bow steering, that too can cause wandering or loose steering.

Thanks to all who have replied. I'm somewhat troubled about the bad luck some of you have had. This boat I have was built with a lot of quality. Maybe doesn't have the super nice finish like North River boats, but for me, the nicer the finish, the more the maintenance to keep it that way. Not a knock on anyone, it's just my own preference. The North Rivers are awful nice outfits. I have called the factory guys and was treated ok. I purchased this boat used so no warranty is there, and I would prefer not to have to take it to them if I can help it, as it would be a full weekend + to do so.
I'm pretty certain that a small adjustment somewhere will do the trick. I don't believe the nossle on the Hamilton pump is the problem because when I'm full on fuel and at least four bodies in the boat, the problem goes away. Thanks again to all who have replied.

Dave
