Another cool Salty Toy
Well for those of you that have trim tabs I have something else that you need to add. I am sure many of you have them already but I just got mine installed and done in just a couple of hours instead of the couple of days I thought it was going to take. What I am talking about is indacators to tell you where those things are at! Meaning how far up or down are they. I am always wondering if they are working and are they up or down. Well these things went in very easily and work great. Bennet makes it easy. They were not cheap! $200 but well worth it and I have not even had them out on the water yet. I think this is going to really make a difference in helping me get the boat on the best plane possible. The ones I got take the place of the top hinge and you do have to run a wire back from both sides. Another hole in the dash and power her up. Calibration was a breeze. I even got my large power supply wires run, much larger than came with the boat, while I was running the indicator wires. Now if I could only get that reel put back together and the tuna would get the heck up here then life would be good and we all could get to fishing instead of bickering!

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
Tracker,
Is this the NMEA 2000 indicator for Bennett's? And if so could you please PM me where you ordered it from? I gotta get one for my boat.
Thanks!

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
No these worked off their own power and did not have a nmea connection. You replaced the top part of the (what they call the hinge but what I would call the hydralic cylinder) with the new one. It has a sensor that goes down into the fluid. You also put a metal rod that rasies up and down with the tabs and that is what the sensor sees. Simple set up with minamal parts. Neat display also. The thing is though that the readout seems backward. But the rocker switches that control the tabs are reversed. When pushing on the right rocker switch you are really moving the left tab. I thought I had them wrong but got it figured out.

I want to install some indicators too. Thanks for the report. Regarding the "backward" switches. I too thought mine were backwards until someone explained how you should think of the switches and now it makes sense. On mine the right toggle works the port trim tab so mentally you need to think of the toggles in relation to the bow and not the trim tabs. If I want the starboard bow to go down I push the starboard toggle which in turn activates the port trim tab. Anyway it sounds like you figured it out.
Not sure if this is the model you installed but I found an internet site selling a bennett indicator for $109 plus free shipping. http://www.asenashop.com/ivn/9193.html

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
I'm out of Salty bucks or I would have put them on with the new tabs. For now I will just have to do it by feel.
;Those thing sure make for a smoother boat performance up on plane fast and maximize speed at desired RPM.

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
You are not my friend Flapbreaker! Those are the ones I put on. Work great.
Wetfly I am out of boat bucks also and soon out of the house if I don't slow down. I am banking on a few dollars from insurance from my car burning to cover some of this. Soon I hope!

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
Ed that car is toast already, you should watch the news more often!!
Dave , It took six months for insurance to pay for my car and the other guy took full responsibility. it was explained to me like this...the insurance guys have a formula that tells them how long they need to drag it out. you see the longer they hold their own money the longer they get the interest from it. when an amount is held long enough to pay for the claim it represents, then they can pay the bill. this formula goes up to three years. sorry.

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
Was on the phone the other day to Bennett's and in a month they will introduce a tab indicator and switch all in one unit that replaces our switches. Right now the indicator is just that-only. I'm holding out for a one hole combo. Mark

Re: Another cool Salty Toy
This was very easy to install and am not sure what would be different. If you were to look at the tabs you could not tell there are indicators on them. Everything is internal.
Ed the car burned pretty much to the ground. It was captured on the DOT cam. Kinda cool to see. Anyway the car was paid for real quick but it is the stuff I had inside it that is taking a while for them the pay for. I had it quite full of stuff. I was using it as a lockable storeage unit while I moved things over to the new garage.
