It was a nice day on the water and the salmon bite was not that good, so I took my terrafin chart from last night and went out on a little boat ride. I went out 24 miles bearing 300. I hit blue water at 18 miles and there was a steady climb in temp. It read 59.2 at the peak I saw alot of jumping bait, But no sun fish or blue sharks. There were a few kelp patties near the surfacing bait but no birds diving. And since I went on the little boat ride I thaught it was fitting that I dump some gear out so I dropped 4 lines out for a half an hour or so then headed back in. No tuna but I wasn't expecting to find them just thought I would scout the water.

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
Jumping bait? To me that means something was under them and feeding on them! I think I'd have stayed more than a half-hour, I'm forever hopeful! often foolishly so!
thanks for the report, our ocean temps are going up, albeit slowly!

I was out 14-miles out of Noyo/Ft Bragg on wednesday... water temps around 59.6 at thie highest... the water was slighlty off-blue but blue enough for our tunoid friends. I saw about 20 blue sharks and loads of albatross. I was looking for sharks- didnt try for tuna- but it shouldnt be long. The new SST shows it MUCH better now (up to 61 in the PM).

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
Hey thats me! The water was beautifull... and the SST's have only gotten better. There have been quite a few humboldt squid caught off Noyo/Ft Bragg the past 2 days as well.
Here's a couple photos from my trip... one of an albatross and one of a blue shark. If the weather doesnt explode it sure looks like we might be only days away from TUNA! time here in NorCal! We'll see...
I was out 14-miles (in 2800 feet of water in the Noyo Canyon).

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
Checking all the SST sources and with only a few holes in the clouds here and there, it looks like 59+ water up to Crescent City pretty solid all the way.

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
nope didnt graduate :depressed:
I am 16 credits short right now for my BA. I quit school when we had our second kid.
I cant wait to get down there! Mike at Eureka Fly Shop went after salmon week ago and he said they 'slaughtered em'. He got a 37 lb one that day.

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
I do not feel like a Lumberjack but darn Mark I must be one to -class of 76. I'll have to tone up on the axe throw.. Now where did i hide my double sider?? I excelled at beer hoisting at the boot and the keg.I can barely remember those days.
Most salmon out front (Eureka ) past week have been deep off the wire (downrigger) at 170 or more in 400 feet of water (depth).
Got a few in the freezer now myself. Mark

Re: Tuna Tuna Tuna Tuna
Yea and don't forget to wear the license around your neck, and have the barb ground down completely smooth, and have any barbed hooks in a lock box, and only have one rood per person, and stand on your left foot while whistling Dixie, or the CF&G warden will still ticket you.
