Default Fillet Tables

I am finally tired of filleting fish on my concrete driveway & getting ready to build a semi-portable fillet table. Does anyone have any input or photo's of their custom fillet tables?

Hey Hunter, Back in Bama I constructed one out of PVC Pipe. If you need to add weight to make it more sturdy, just fill with sand. PVC pipe stand with a plywood top with a PVC drainpipe into a 5 gallon bucket. Makes assembly and disassembly alot easier and you can take it on the road with you, granted you don't own a Yugo, Rabbit, or a Ferarri.

Hunter, mine isn't portable. Its hooked to the back of the smoke house, with 2 wash hoses and a roof over my head with 2 1000 watt halogen lights behind me. (not only for light but for heat) One thing you want to have a drain trough like heyyall said. Its nice not to have all the water and blood running all over your feet.

I designed a very nice Fillet board. It is made entirely out of cutting board material. I will get my prototype back in a day or so and if you are interested in getting one I will post a picture of one or you can email me for info-Dimensions are 4'x 2' ,it is milled out and has trays and a drain and is shaped and milled out so the fish will not slide around.I got tired of the driveway thing too so I decided to make one that will last a long time and has everything your driveway doesn't. Good Topic,

I always end up on my knees, using a cooler.
I've been eyeing one of those new fangled garden carts made for potting and planting bedding plants, etc. They look like they're made of tough plastic. With a few modifications, I could screw in a fish wedge and mount some spots for a fillet knife, brush and hose nozzel. It even has wheels.

* Does it seem dumb that I can't clean my fish in the river, but ODFW wants carcasses planted back in the stream????

Hogtide, it is dumb enough that the regs are likely to get changed, allowing cleaning fish riverside and leaving parts in the river for improvement of ecosystem nutrients. I don't think current cleaning regs are enforced for that same reason? Also, in addition to bleeding your catch right away for better quality meat and eggs, I prefer to clean the fish at the river for a better eating product than waiting several more hours before you clean them at home. Then use bags with ice or a cooler to bring your cleaned catch home. I think a good portable cleaning table or board for riverside use would be a good idea! - RT

HOgtide: do OR. regs specifically say you cannot clean fish in the river? I discussed this issue several yrs ago with OR. game cops and they told me that the only place you can not clean a fish is on a public dock or if the water is specifically marked. They also said if you field clean a fish you can not disfigure the fish so as to hide what it was (i.e. can't clean it so they can't tell if it was wild or hatchery raised fish.)

Please help.

Thanks, Giz...

FYI

As per current Oregon regulations; It is illegal to possess in the field a game fish dressed or mutilated so that size, species, or fin-clip cannot be determined. It is also illegal to remove eggs from a salmon or sturgeon without retaining the carcass while in the field. In other words, you may gut your catch, but leave the head and fins on it. You cannot fillet your catch in the field.

gizmo man look at page 9 in the regs #15 general restrictions, dispose of dead animal(fish) carcasses,or parts thereof, in oregon waters. what about crabbing in the bays can't throw whats left of the bait away in the water i guess?

I thought this one had been batted back and forth the last decade or so and the latest decision was that you could clean(gut) your fish in the river. However, this spring, a close friend of mine was approached by the Columbia County sheriff and told that by cleaning his fish he could receive a large fine...they just chose to let him slide this time. After my friend told me this, I checked the regs and did find a section stating that it is unlawful to clean fish in the water.(Don't recall the page off hand)
