Default Weekend at Sekiu

It was my sons 21st birthday and he wanted to do some fishing so we went up to Sekiu for 5 days and fished for Halibut, Lings and Bass. We got 1 small Halibut, 2 keeper lings and many undersize, We brought home about 60 or 70 pounds of bass fillet and also caught flounder, greenling, cod and quillback. All in all a great weekend of fishing.

As a side note, I have ever heard so many distress calls on the radio before. Those Coasties at Neah and on Vancouver Island sure are a busy group.

Thanks for the report.
Anything in the halibut's stomach? There were a couple of reports about the PA derby folks finding red rock crab in thier catch? Just currious.

The one we caught was small like a pop tart, hook on a squid jig. Of the few we seen at the dock, one guy said it had squid in it. The halibut fishing from a locals point of view was "Its the slowest he's seen in a long time but it will get better, later on in June". We heard of a few that were from 65 to 135 pounds. I think the 135 came from a boat out of Port Angeles.

I believe the largest 'but was #124 by sunday. Only 30 or so fish for 150 boats around PA.

You are probably right about catch numbers and weight. The reports I was hearing was over the radio and I was more focused on fishing than the radio. Thanks for the update and for clairifing the catch. That 150 boats, was that just the derby boats?

60 to 70 lbs of fillets!!! Even without a butt you seem to have had a very successful fishing trip. Congratulations.

That makes me feel better about our 0 halibut for 5 days of fishing the week before the Derby.

From my understanding most of the boats were from the launches at PA, only some were from Sequim Bay at John Wayne Marina.
