For your house? Boat? Tent? There are a variety of types. What application are you considering?

the one for the house.about $599 at home depot.with the windows i have(all sliders)it is hard to put a window mount in.just was wondering about those portable ones.they are about 4 ft.tall and couple feet square, with wheels.you just move them to the room you want.are they noisier than a window mount?

I've been wondering about those too. You might want to look at Costco, they have them starting at $299 for a 9,000 BTU and $349 for a 10,000 BTU.

I've used standard a/c units for my sliders. Just go to Tap Plastics and have them cut a piece to fit your opening. Then you even get to look out the window!

i also have one room that i do that in,but was thinking if i want other rooms i dont want to do that all over the house.thought one of these would work, because you can just move it around.i tend to spend more time in the room without it.

Was unimpressed by the portables. Not worth the money IMHO.

What Fineline said.
We tried one last year. You still have to run a hose up and out your window. We bought the highest btu we could find.It was annoying, and dint work to well.Ended uo returning it.

Puddles

The Hillsboro Costco has a good selection of window AC's. We bought a "Sharp" 12,000 BTU AC for $229. So far it's been the cheapest AC for that rating I've seen. There all designed for Vertical windows, but we're able to mount it in our Horizontal window.

I have sliders and the window AC works good. I have a piece of plastic over the windows and a stick to help slow down unwanted entry.

We have had a portable A/C unit for about 4 years now..
It worked just fine... We acutally cut a hole in the front door and put in a dryer vent... unit hooks up with the hole in the door and cools the room fairly well. In my opinion the unit is very large and bulky for the amount of the BTU's... Window unit is better and smaller...
I would sell you mine if you are interested... and Happy Birthday by the way.
