Re: Anybody have info on Moose in Unit 50 Idaho?
No specific moose info, but it is a pretty accessable area. Maybe I'll have to spend a little more time up there flyfishing this summer for you. I've got a friend who knows that area pretty well, I'll check with him.
General moose advice, it gets better after the trees have changed and the rut is starting. When everything is green it can be tough to spot moose. Never, ever hunt downhill from the road unless you have horses. A big plastic "jet sled" will skid half a moose over dirt fairly well. Moose are huge, even small ones. A helper is good, two is better (although I gutted mine with the help of my 9 year old daughter). Minimum two razor sharp knives, moose hide is like the a tire sidewall. Get up high before light and glass, moose really don't move that far if not spooked. Moose are huge.
Let me know the time frame you're hunting (I'd do mid to late October), and what specific area and I see what I can find out. PM Idaho Painter, I think he's pretty knowledgeable about that part of the state.
