Re: CR Halibut
I am sooooo tired! 6 days, 6 limits, (4 days of 3 limits and 2 days of five fish limits)

The last four days was a marathon, but thanks to some new salty dog friends, we found where the fish had moved to and finished strong.

A tip of the salty dog hat to, Miss Beverly, Kamloops, Capt Ron, catch and eat, pro line, and others I can't remember.

I tried to carry on for Key West by being way out front and running hard but, "I know Dean Ferguson, and, I am no Dean Ferguson, not even close" We sure missed you out there Dean. Hurry home before they cut us off!!

Now it's time for "Team Odin" to get some practice in for the "Oregon Tuna Classic"

Re: CR Halibut
I gotta agree with Tom here. You are solely responsible for our shorter season there BOB. Good for you!

Re: CR Halibut
Congratulations on your fishing trip. Sounds like you had a blast. How deep of water do you fish for halibut from the
cr? Thanks for the report.

Re: CR Halibut
Mike, when I fished with kamloops weekend before last we hauled them up from 550'.
Don't forget you are supposed to be catching me some shad. If you're fishing up here in the gorge bring them by the house and I'll show you my new boat.

Re: CR Halibut
The two or three halibut holes that hold the most fish are all about 560 to 600 feet deep. All of them hold fish in about a 3 to 5 acre area.

This close fishing brings up a question that was posed to me about deep water etiquette. One must understand that even if it looks like your line is straight down "it isn't"!
And as you go from 48 oz. to 24 oz. in the same drift the amount of line required to reach bottom increases.

The problem occurs when a boat using lighter weight passes too close to the upstream side of a boat using heavy weight, or vise versa, Causing unbelivable tangles between boats.

It is imperative that boats in close proximity fish parallel tracks!

Saturday I had an, obviously inexperienced, halibut charter skipper almost run me down. I fortunatly had electric reels and heavy weights or he would have gotten all my lines. It was with great restraint my crew resisted organizing a boarding party with drawn swords.

We often call to fellow boats to find out their weights so that we can position ourselves so as not to create tangle possibilities.

Off the soap box now and outside to detail the boat, install my new fuel flow display, and get it ready for paint.

Re: CR Halibut
Sounds like good advise odin. Bring lots of weight and spare rigs seems to be a good idea. Sounds like the best thing is to get there early and be done before the flotilla arrives. I haven't fished the CR halibut fishery, only New Port. If the weather is nice I am eager to try out of the CR since it is closer to home.

That must have been a Bewitched-ing moment. He should have known better.
