Default This weekends turkey!!

My mom dared me to post this one up so I had to do it. She was poking fun at my pops and I as this is was the first skunk weekend of the season. Had one of those weekends that will stick in my head for a long time. We only saw a total of 11 turkeys, 4 longbeards, 3 jakes, and 4 hens. We passed on the jakes, I misjudged distance on one longbeard and missed, passed on his buddy that flew right over me at 15 feet, and got waaaaay too close to a roosted Tom this morning, he moved trees last night. It was one of those weekends that could have been perfect, instead we came home with a big case of the "if only's". I just love turkey hunting more than any other, man do they get to me bad. I just hate that I live 5 hours from where I used to live 5 minutes. Good luck in the last week, I only get maybe two more days :depressed:

Nice report Evan. Turkey hunting seems to be the only sport I know that coming close is almost as much fun as actually shooting one. Sure makes me want to go back. Last year, I spent the entire season chasing birds and never fired a shot. Would I do it again?.. You bet! Good luck next weekend!

P.S. The problem you had could be traced back to the black and white hat.

Weekend before last I had a big daddy at 30 yds coming toward me...he goes behind the tree, I draw my bow and center my 30 yd pin...and he never comes out. I lean out and see him beetin feet. One of his hens busted me.

Mike and I chased birds all day. I think we could've killed a dozen with a gun. I drew my bow 6 different times and put an arrow about an inch under one longbeard.

But as you say GB, I spent the whole day in the woods, calling and sneeking up on stuff, knocking arrows and creeping around. AT the end of the day, no blood, tired legs and a big smile.

This week, it may be time to break out the scatter guns.
