Default Looking for suggestions on a handheld GPS

I'm looking for suggestions on what to consider for a handheld GPS.

This will be my first GPS and I know nothing about them. I'm looking for a good all around unit that I can use while out in the boat or out on the dirt bikes. I don't want to buy a cheap one only find that I need to upgrade in six months or a year (been there done that on other things). I would rather spend a little more money and get something that will allow me to use it for a while. From what I’ve seen so far I think I would be willing to spend the extra money and get one with a color screen, but don't know if it's worth while.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have the Garmin 76CS, which is the color version of the 76s. It has a big internal memory, so it doesn't need memory cards like some other units.

You may get a better response if you post this on the hunting board

make sure when you look at them that the one you buy allows th compass to work at all times. I just bought a close out model a while back and the compass/bearing features only work while you are moving. another thing to check into is the price of the maps!! the one I bought needs additional maps if you want more than just the highways. corvallis is a blank screen on mine. it will cost me $150 to get the maps for the magellan meridian!!

check features and do your research.

Garmin, and the color is worth it. If you are going to use it in the woods, plan on buying the topo software. ($99)
