Default a tip on catchin more fish with newbies.

When in my driftie pullin plugs or divers I've always had a hard time properly fishing the heads of nice water when I have a buddy or buddet riding up front mostly because they have a rough time casting a plug or diver/bait combo as I'm entering the hole to get that nice tight water that forms at the immediate end of the whitewater or very heavy current which you notice most guys just boogie through and get their gear out once they have fully entered the run and missed some great water (ever notice some of your big dogs like to get up just below the white water?) The current is actually very nice at the bottom of these high end slots even though the top water can be a rippin. What I like to do is enter into the run smoothly and as soon as I can row the boat to whatever side is more conducive and row up to the tip top of the whole in the slack or eddy water along the bank, even if it means I have to oar in a foot of water, from there I can make sure the rods are put out properly (nice and close if its traditional steelhead water) and from the side ease over to the heavy water and just like that your fishin just how you want to be and the take downs high up like that are somethin else. It's very basic and I kick myself when I think about all the fish I've missed for my friends by not doing this, this winter it has been particularly productive and turned some so-so
days into some very good days. You guys have any tips I can ad to this move ? Thanks

shoot told ya I am old my alzhymers made me forget to leave ya a tip

Try having your buddies run your gear out before you get to the spot you want them to fish. I start running my plugs out a ways before they drop over the edge at the top of the hole so that I can work the top end with plugs.

I've had good success with tossing out a bait of eggs with no weight just before I get to the hole.

As you drift in the bait drops right in to that slow water under the current and rarely hangs up.

Drifting with no weight and slack line will put the bait right where the fish are lying. Just watch the line carefully for that little odd movement.

If you're talkin tips for newbies, I have always rigged up the folks that have'nt had much experience with a jig and float on a spin outfit.
They see what's happening, don't get discouraged with their casting and the bobber says "bloop" at the tailout. K.I.S.S method for the new ones, and they will stick around longer.
