Default Custom Lettering?

Been thinking about changing the registration numbers on the boat from the "Plain Jane" style to something a little more modern or different. Anybody recommend a spot in the mid-valley that I could get a new set? Or how about on the net? If it doesn't fly with the mods to post, then e-mail or pm me.
Thanks,
MM

I just saw a booth at Lloyd Center this weekend that was set up to do boat numbers and names. Looked like it would be quick and convienient if you happen to be in Portland.

careful with the "flair". Legally supposed to be block letters but I know first hand it depends on the trooper that happens to inspect your boat.

Double what salmonator says...I had a trooper give me a bit of a hassle because he couldn't clearly read my O.R. numbers... might give state marine board a quick call just to be sure.

I ordered mine from a website....something like "boatletters.com"...search and you'll find it....unlimited fonts and a great product...next best thing to having them painted on.

From the Oregon Marine Board:

The numbers and letters must be vertical (not slanted), plain (not script or varying in thickness), and any border outline or shadowing must be disregarded in determining the height or color contrast. The number's color should be in contrast with the boat hull's color so as to be legible at a distance. No other number or letters can be displayed nearby if they will interfere with the identification of the vessel by its state number.

Thanks rebull for looking out for me.
The numbers do need to be 3" and in a bold easily recognizable font, like helvetica. No serifs or italics.
There also has to be ample room between the two letters and the numerals (2") An outline or drop can be used, but the base letter still must be the min. height and contrasting to the background.
I think I'll redo mine along with my moniker.

Look for a SignSmart franchise in your area. There is one in Kelso. They make the letters on a one piece paper backing on both sides which facilitates getting them on the boat straight. Peel off one side which exposes the adhsive side of the letters, place and I used a small wooden roller to apply pressure, then remove paper backing. You can get any lettering style you want. I didn't go to radical though. Cost less than $20 for both sides. I would expect there are shops in your area that can do this just look in yellow pages under "signs".

I just did the same thing for my boat and looked long and hard for a good place. I ended up going to a local company in Beaverton (Impact Sign) and they did an awesome custom job for $30.

BoatUS.com has a cool area that you can choose your boat graphics based on about 25 colors and then 25 fonts. You pick the combo you want to see,and then it will show you what your registration or boat name will look like before you order.

I'm pretty sure Wa has the same regs about boat lettering. I was thinking of something like this for my boat. I wonder if it would be a hassle?

Might try overton's marine catalog, kinda like cabela's. I got a complete set of letters (3 each of letters and numbers) for around 15 bucks. Nice style and multiple color combinations available. I have the italic style and have never been hassled by law, C.G. or inspection people.
