Default Lowrance LMS-480M DF... Help!

I have a Lowrance LMS-480M DF F/F GPS Unit. I have had it for almost 3 years now with no problems until recently. I just started havinga problem where the F/F part does not read if the water depth is greater than 60 feet. The F/F goes to depths of at least 1500'. I have re routed the transducer away from power wires, ran the power directly to the battery and inspected everything. The transduer is in a great location and worked great until recently. Is there a way to fix this problem, or do I just need to buy a new transducer? I tried calling Lowrance but they said they will get back to me shortly.

I have an lms 320 that started doing the exact same thing last year. but mainly just in the salt???? and never had that problem before. He said, "it sounds like a transducer problem, although it can be in the unit as well. Try this reset and see if you get different result:

Soft Reset:
1. Turn unit off
2. Press and hold the pages key
3. press and hold the pwr key
4. release both buttons when the usa map appears

I have yet to try this but I will in the near future.

Lowrance called me today and instructed me to try that. Then they asked me to listen to the clicking the transducer was making and I told him what I heard. He said from the erratic and pausing clicking it was probably the transducer and he is shipping me a new transducer free of charge. What awesome service.

sending you a free one even after the warrenty is out!??? wow, I wanna talk to that guy!! i've been putting it off and putting it off cause I figure i'll have to pay about 150 for a new one, and if I do that I might just shell out a few more clams and get a new unit.
