Default Wallpaper removal

I've been informed that I'm looking forward to redoing my son's bedroom. I installed a border years ago and was my first and only experience with this. now I have to strip it and am dreading it. Please advise, thanks

ah, this isn't all that bad if you have the correct tools.

1. wall paper steamer- available at home depot
2. wall paper scorer- same (hand held deal with little cutters on the bottom)
3. scraper

score it, steam it, scrape it. Should come right off.

thanks...my drywall is textured, is the scraping going to butcher it, or alter its texture?

What kind of texture? I recently had to strip the WP from my daughters room.I have a knock-down texture and I was relieved to find a 4" razor scraper didn't damage the walls hardly at all... if I was careful and paid attention to what I was doing.

I had tried a WP scoring tool, IIRC it was made by Zinser and was called the Paper Tiger. That along with the Zinser adhesive remover made a HUGE mess. I got so fed up with that junk I went with the scraper mentioned above.

once you score the wallpaper try the following mix

10 part water
1 part Fabric softner

I have removed the wallpaper from my ENTIRE house so I have used, and owned all the tools etc...

The Fabric softner is non-toxic (no gloves) and just melts the glue away.

The steamer is great too, but you have to be patient....

Hey fastactionrodtip, I had to remove wallpaper from 2 rooms when i moved into my house. A good friend of mine was a painter so i contacted him about the issue. He told me to score the paper very well, don't worry much about the little holes it makes because they will totally cover up when you paint. Next take a mixture of 50% water, the warmer the better, and 50% ammonia and mix it in a spray bottle. Wet a section of the wall from top to bottom, let it soak in then do it a time or 2 more. Grab the top of the paper and pull it off. A scrapper might be needed to start it from the top. I thought that he was jeking my chain, but it works real slick. One of the rooms had 2 layers of paper and it still worked. Give it a try and if it does'nt work then i'll be a monkeys uncle.

I have done this......don't buy the steamer (I have one) and they are not worth it.

Go to Bi mart or Freddys and buy some wall paper remover Jasco is one brand. You mix with water and spray it on.

Wall paper comes off very easy.

I had a Victorian with 5 layers....yes 5 bought the steamer it was a pain in the ...

My next house had 2 layers and I used the Jasco stuff.....SIMPLE.

Have fun

Paul

Paper tiger and Jasco - your going to paint anyway so I tapped up and taped plastic sheeting out 5 feet from the wall - used a spounge to soak the wall, paper tiger to score the paper first - had a textured wall as well - need to wash wall afterwards to get remainder of the glue off - it does round off the texture if it wasn't painted before you papered the first time
