Default Kwikfish Hook Replacement

What are the sizes for replacing the hooks on kwikfish? I am guessing that if a K14 comes stock with 2/0 (??) that is what should go back on. However if one were replacing with Owner 2X trebles should it be replaced with the same size even if it will be a much heavier hook? Is that heavier gauge hook going to effect the action of the plug?

Does anyone have the different hook sizes that come on a stock kwikfish? (i.e. K14 comes with 2/0 (??), K15 comes with ?/0,etc)

I understand that many conversions include the addition of a swivel (size ??) to drop the hook away from the plug. How is this done? If I was to open the eye screw on the plug I could insert the swivel, close the eye screw, then attach the split ring and hook. Is this the correct procedure? When opening the eye screw should I remove it from the plug first or can it be done attached to the plug?

Can the belly hook be replaced with a swash hook? If so, what size for what plug and should a swivel be used here also?

I guess I have a lot of questions on this issue but would like to tap the expertise of other Ifishers.

How about some pictures of modified Kwikfish for the novice here. Thanks....

I add a split ring to the belly hook and clamp a 4/0 open eye siwash on. On the tail hook I keep the split ring, add a barrel swivel and another 4/0 open eye siwash. A wise old man told me to do this, and as soon as I did I caught fish

On the siwash hook replacements do you have the hook point facing up or down?

Hey ff, do you read Salmon, Trout, Steelheader? If so, there is a great article in the Oct-Nov issue 2001 on this topic. It is titled "RIGGING OPTIONS FOR Kwikfish/Flatfish". It has 3 or 4 different options and ways you can rig these lures up. If you don't have this article you can order back issues by contacting Amato Publications, Inc. at 503-653-8108.

I've noticed in Cabelas tackle catalog, you can get ball bearing swivels with split rings....may be worth getting some to try with the siwash hooks....they come in several sizes, somewhat expensive but may be a good application. Now I've gone and talked myself into it...... Russ

I like an 80 lb test swivel, and 3/0 siwash on K14's. 4/0 on 15's, 5/0 on 16's. You pry the eye open to get the swivel on, and then put the siwash on the swivel. I also bend the hooks a bit offset. That was one of the recommended methods in the STS article mentioned above.

I have used doubles in years past.....size for size they seem somewhat weak to me. SInce those early experiments, its treble or siwash for me now. Russ
