There are many financial arguments on either side of the issue, but to adversely effect the entire Northern California coast to provide a 3 day retention season on the Klamath River just does not fairly recognized the relative number of people and businesses impacted.

So it's all about the effect this has on people?
What effect does this have on the fish?
This seems like a consumtive issue to you folks down there, what about the fish? What's best for them?
Sorry to hear you might not get to fish this summer, welcome to the real world my friend.
Perhaps some proactive fisheries management might be in order.
Job one should be to fin clip all hatchery fish, which would allow you to fish on mixed stocks when need be.
Using the finacial hardship argument holds little water, when other proactive measures have not been done.

In the long run this is affecting far more that Northern California Klamath River fishermen. The causes have been well discussed on this site earlier this spring. The bottom line is the unwillingness/inability of the Oregon and California governments to ensure that in-river water deliveries take precedence over high-desert farming and other water diversions. That is a two-state and Federal multi-agency knot that will plague ALL of us from Monterey through northern Oregon till resolved. So to answer your question about whether this is about people -- the answer is both yes and no. Without long-term guarantees for the fish we are adversely impacting many small coastal communities that rely on the fish and the tourists they bring.
