Default Turkey #2

Since I got my Tom opening day I have been targeting one specific HUGE Tom for myself and my dad. I’ve had him under 50yards 4 times and we never got a shot. Last weekend I called him in 3 times for my dad, once to 30yards and he was able to sneak out alive. This dude is giant he makes the 9’’+ beard Toms I have shot look like runts. I think he looks like an Ostrich with a neck tie.

This was the last day I was going to hunt for myself this season so I tried one last time this morning, but I could not get him in. Wanting to put my turkey season to an end I went after a group of Jakes and was able to take this little guy. He has 5’’ beard and was the biggest in the bunch.

My dad still does not have a turkey so I may call for him tomorrow morning and see if we can finally get the big boy. If he escapes I can’t wait to see him next year.

These pics are for hrbassin. Thought he might appreciate the bike in turkey hunting.

Loaded and ready for the haul out.

Thats great! I'm peddlin' out at 5 A.M. tommorrow. Apparently I had the wrong directions last time. I have talked to three different people on Baldwin creek and all have seen turkeys recently, so I think I got the dierections straight this time. I'll let you know how it goes. Nice bird Man!

You should try and be out where they are by 5:00AM. They have been gobbling by that time. They were going nuts this morning, but I think most had hens with them or close by because they shut up as soon as they hit the ground. It's best if you can locate a bird as early as possible and then try and get close while he is still in the tree. Don't try and get so close that they can see you out of the tree though. If you hear real hens calling to him try and get yourself between the hens and the gobbler. If he goes towards them a couple soft calls may be enough to get him looking. Good Luck!

Thanks again

Well, I slept in a bit, got there around 5:15, and got to calling around. Continued this 'till the sun was up, and suddenly every bug and his friggin dog was out and looking for food. Unfortunately I was the only one in the vicinity that qualified as food, and I was set upon with gusto. This promptly ended this mornings trip, without seeing or hearing any turkeys.
I guess I am going to have to wait for an oppurtunity with someone that knows what they're doing, because this stuff isn't working out.
I'll see what happens.

Later,

Mark
