This could put vessels in some serious danger!
Please keep your eyes and ears open. To report incidents of vandalism individuals should contact the 13th Coast Guard District command center at (206) 220-7001

Another reason for some not to own a gun. Sorry to hear about idiots with weapons. This is a serious crime. Mark

Re: COLUMBIA RIVER NAVIGATIONAL AID DAMAGED BY GUNFIRE
What a bunch of crap!
I would much prefer to spend my tax money on patrol fuel than on replacing items that keep us safe because somebody was destructive.
I very much doubt the offender would like his lights shot out, yet he treats public property this way.
Hopefully the offender will be caught and made an example of.

Re: COLUMBIA RIVER NAVIGATIONAL AID DAMAGED BY GUN
Onokai,
This crime has nothing to do with the ownership of guns. It is some imbecile with too much time available and a serious lack of intelligence. Personal weapons, of all types, are crucial for individual personal protection as well as the existence of a free society. The misuse of anything must only be attributed to the party misusing it, not the item itself. Punish the guilty and leave the rest alone! Otherwise, you could blame cars for drunken drivers......
If you make the choice not to own a firearm, I will respect that choice. If you are a victim of violent crime, that is also your choice. We live in a remote area, 7 miles to the closest neighbor, and an hour to the nearest law enforcement. Every adult in this area is armed at all times. We choose not to be victims. If someone means us harm, they are the ones outside the law, and we will take any actions needed to avoid personal loss or injury. Please respect our decisions to defend ourselves, as we respect yours not to.

Onokai, You dont want to own guns, then dont. Your choice, but realize that owning a gun did not have anything to do with this crime. Doing illegal things with a gun, or slingshot, or whatever implement was used, is what this is about.
The gun didnt shoot anything, the person behind the trigger did.

Re: COLUMBIA RIVER NAVIGATIONAL AID DAMAGED BY GUN
Ok guys lets get back on topic here!
There are two reasons for this post to be on IFISH.
1. If you are navigating the area, be aware of the Nav Aid location. This serves as a reminder to log on to the Coast Guard site for ATON'S (Aids to Navigation)and update your information often!
2. If you are an Ifisher in the area, take time to notice the people and their vehicles that could be responsible and report it.
Wouldn't it be great if an IFISHER was responsible for the reporting of the persons responsible.
Bob

Frank Lloyd Wright had a pretty good take on this:
"I agree that dangerous weapons should be taken out of the hands of imbeciles. Let's start with typewriters."
Nice post, Mav.

I respect your choice Onokai, but I am definitely with Mav on this! Guns don't do the damage people do!

Re: COLUMBIA RIVER NAVIGATIONAL AID DAMAGED BY GUN
Hey easy now - Do not take this personal,I respect folks with guns . I feel you need to have a brain as well. I have many a hunter friend-heck I own 5 spearguns myself. Shooting up nav aids we all use was my topic-not gun ownership. I to live in a rural setting and respect wise uses of weapons. I to love tasty animals.
I agree with Mav on his point (It is some imbecile with too much time available and a serious lack of intelligence).
The topic is shooting up nav aids-My point was some should not own guns as they do not respect others property rights. Mark
PS I changed my original post to refect what I meant.

Re: COLUMBIA RIVER NAVIGATIONAL AID DAMAGED BY GUN
Thanks Bob. These things are generally done by kids or individuals who haven't quite made the connection between taxation and thier actions. They somehow believe the "government" will pay for what they do. Of course, we all know who really pays.

Well said Dean!
Some of these kids will grow up to be strong law abiding advocates.
Some adult knows they are running around in the estuary with illegal guns. Public notification of vandal acts in the lower Columbia may stop the mischief.

Gun owners and supporters of our right to own guns - relax and re-read Onokia's comment.
"another reason for some not to own a gun."
Clearly the indiviual responsible for this incident should have his/her gun ownership privilages revoked. This person has demostrated a complete lack of regard for the responsibilities the rest of us hold dear and take seriously as gun owners. As gun owner I am personally ashamed to be associated with such an individual and would like plant my foot on their backside for making the rest of us look bad.
We can all avoid shooting first and asking questions later if we simply take the time to accurately read what was written. Relax - you are among friends here.
