Halibut inside 40 fathoms ???

where would a guy start the hunt inside 40 fathoms ? I am not asking anyone to post G.P.S points but if you wanted to P.M me some that would be fine :grin:

I am just trying to narrow down the hunt and try to find some areas inside to help save on gas and if one of you dogs wanted to help a newbee to the oregon coast out well then I wouldn't complain. I figure there has to be some areas to look around I prefer to go out of newport/depoe .

in exchange I can provide someone with plenty of shad for the opener! thanks or the help

Somewhere straight off Yaquina head pretty close in. Sorry to folks who's zipperlip spot that is. Not too sure myself, never been there. Heard there were alot of skates there!

Try 30 fathoms off light house in newport, caught a few over the years there.

it will be easier to take a 20 mile halibut trip this year rather then a 60 mile trip I am afraid. my sister in California keeps hearing that down south gas WILL hit 4.00 a gallon. I feel bad for all the guys down south many of there runs are VERY LONG.

There is a large reef structure in about 30 fathoms off Manzanita that fishes for halibut.

Here's another data source you may want to visit. Snakebite posted it in conjunction with another topic... but this is the statistical halibut survey catch results for the West Coast. By looking into the data for the areas you planned to fish you can get some idea of where to fish.

These catch locations are spread about 10 miles apart, so not good coverage, but may help you focus on some areas.
