We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
Hi Guys,
My wife just accepted a job with Tillamook county and I accepted one with the ODFW in Pacific City and we have tons of question!! We are looking for a place to rent for a while until we get settled and can buy a house (probably a year or so), does anyone know of any places around Tillamook? I am so excited about the fishing!! Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Centex is building 100 new homes in Netarts, totally ruining that community. It's six miles from Tillamook and about twenty five miles from Pacific City, you would have the best commute in the world. A daily drive of the Three Capes Loop.

Besides aesthetics, the prices of homes in that mega-development will likely be beyond what working folks can afford anyway.

Welcome to the land of cheese, trees and ocean breezes. The air only smells if you breath through your nose! That's the aroma of fresh salmon to me!
Here is a link to some real estate folks in the county. They often have rentals available as well as houses for sale. http://www.tillamoo.com/RealEstate.htmGood general county info and contacts here too. http://www.tillamoo.com/
Also, Tim Croman has some rentals in the Rockaway area. http://www.tcroman.com/

If you don't mind a little odor, a few feet of rain each year, storm force winds, occasional flooding, Tsunami warnings and can stand little to no traffic, less crime and miles of sandy beaches your coming to the right place. Oh, did I mention the fishing?
Let me know if I can be of any help.

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
I think it's kinda funny that some of you are upset with the growth going on in Netarts????
Look at growth everywhere,...
What's really funny is 99% of the homes will probably be bought by outsiders of the Tillamook area and they are the ones that are complaining???
I don't get it

What's the prob??? The county and the city approved it,and the residents should have had a hearing in regards to development affecting that property.

For a partial list:
1. It's completely out of the community's character.
2. There was no city approval, as Netarts is not a city, just county. And if you haven't noticed, Tillamook County Commissioners have never seen any development that they didn't love.
3. This scale of devlopment will have major impacts on our community infrastructure, like roads and sewer, and those additional costs will be borne by us property owners in that sanitation district. The developer makes his quick buck and moves on, while the rest of the community lives with the costs and impacts forever.
4. Even pro-growth folks are concerned about the un-precedented sediment run-off into Netarts Bay - which has been Oregon's cleanest bay. This erosion is being investigated.

Don't overlook Bay City or Idaville, both are nice places to live and close to town.

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
Thanks garyK, alot of these issues were addressed by the residents of Netarts in several hearings with the county, but fell on deaf ears. It seems that Tillamook county just wants the extra tax dollars and don't really care about anything else. Just look at the Anchor or The Capes.

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
A few things to always remember when coming to Tillamook county:
Don't speed!
If you plan on eating out for dinner go before 8:00PM becasue after that everything closes.
Get your fishing gear in the Portland since it is much cheaper.
Buy your bait at Tillamook Bait.
Don't come thinking that housing is cheap cause it isn't.

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
We lived there for 5 years (Bay City) and I loved it
The only problem with Tillamook is it's to close to Portland

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
With you working in PC and the wife for Tillamook (I assume in town) I would be looking south of town. If you go north, your commute just gets worse in the summer. Netarts to PC would be a nice country commute, or from south of town wouldnt be to bad like from Pleasant valley.
Plan on summer commutes taking twice as long as winter, as all the motorhomes on 101 sure puts a cog in the wheel, but the price of gas might curb that a bit.
The north side of town tends to be windier as you are closer to the bay, get south a bit and the cape helps to protect you.
If you want an ocean view, I hope your job pays well
I have always wanted to live out towards cape meares and walk to the south jetty each day, but the commute to town along the bay would get old (curvy road), but a nice view.
If you get out of the main Tillamook valley and up some of the canyons, like, Fawcett Creek, simmons creek, or mill creek (or that general direction) the temperature goes up in the summer, less wind, less dairy aire, and just plain nice in my opinion.
Those long dark winters in Alaska get old, those long wet winters get old on the coast. Be prepared for the eternal drizzle.
Fishing is outstanding
I still havent figured out how to support my family in that area :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed:

Re: We\'re moving to Tillamook, (QUESTIONS)
Good luck man,
I just moved out of that area last year. I taught at Nestucca High for a few and it is an awesome area. Great fishing and hunting. Great people as well. You'll never run out of things to do outside. Problem is, realestate has gone through the roof there. Pacific City probably averages 250k per home and goes way up from there. Tillamook is surely cheaper. You can still find some good buys around the Beaver area as well. Sandlake would fit you guys well it sounds like....ODFW office is in Hebo though...What to they have in PC?
