Default Praying for a fish to bite?

Okay, have you ever said a prayer that you would get a bite while you were fishing? I have and although I believe God answers all of our prayers, I haven't noticed any increase or decrease in bites after a prayer so I have to conclude God most times doesn't care whether I catch another fish or not. Maybe the answer to my prayer is that I should be doing something more constructve with my time. What about you? Ever said a prayer like that?

All the time. I say "Lord if you are pleased to give me a fish, I will gladly play it and let it go if it is a native". He is involved in all our doings and hears every word or thought we mutter, so why would He not be involved in our fishing? He is. The catching isn't so important to Him, but the people we become in Christ. By the way, the skunk is still in my boat after four trips :-). "Tribulation worketh patience".

When I was guiding in Alaska 5 people came up and fished 2 days Halibut with me. They were staying at our lodge and as we were having breakfast the first morning, one of them who was a minister asked all to join hands in prayer. He simply prayed for a good day on the water and for our safe journey to the Halibut grounds and back. I don't recall a specific request for fish. That day turned out to be one of the most memorable of my 6 years up there. We boated 720 lbs of prime Halibut including two over 120 pounds! I have the pictures in my album. The next day I asked him if he would offer another prayer. He did and we again went out and boated 640 pounds of fish!

My dear old Dad always said God had better things to worry about than whether or not he caught fish.

But as someone said, "no harm in asking".

A lot.

He cares about every thing in our lives.

I don't pray really pray for fish anymore. Instead I pray that I can except what ever the number of fish we catch. This way I can trust God is in controle and I can be thankfull for the day no matter what the fish box has in it.

Absolutely! Our Heavenly Father wants to bring us all of the joy that the earth has to offer! He wants to give us personally all the things that we love!
I pray for joy. I ask for it all the time. I think God knows that if we feel joy, we will pass on love, which is the basis for His existance. He wants all of us to feel loved, and to feel joy, and if we do, then people know we are Christians by our love.
So, yes! Fish make me joyful and make me spread love!

I have, usually when I really want a youngster or special visitor to catch one. Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it hasn't. The most remarkable instance that ever happened to me was when I was living in Alaksa. We were Moose hunting when my partner said "let's pray for a moose!"

We did, and approximately 30 seconds later heard a big crash and look up to see two big bulls fighting. We harvested them both, and spent some time praising God.

Interesting that you mention hunting, Grantspastor. The last time I bowhunted, I shot a deer just before dark and it took off into the trees. I waited the requisite 15 minutes and took off into a dark forest after the deer. In the first 5 minutes, I was lost and so was the deer's trail. I prayed for guidance, and walked for another half hour to find the deer dead in the middle of a trail. I would not have found that deer without prayer.

In fact, I always pray while trailing wounded game. It works more often for me than when I pray for a fish to bite.
