Default Snaggers caught at Eagle Creek

Apparently the state police caught a couple of snaggers. Not only were they cited they also had their gear taken and their vehicles towed. Way to go OSP!!!!!

Yaaaay! Finally hearing of even a couple of the seeming multitude of lowlife snaggers getting cited is encouaging! Maybe there is some hope that the cops will tear themselves away from the donut shops and riding around in their tax bought SUV's long enough to get a few more? OK, that may have been an uncalled for low shot, but I'm frustrated by hearing several posts indicating that there is NO law enforcement afield; and in some cases they don't even come when called with snagging reports! Is there only 2 fishcops in Oregon and 2 in Washington or what. I know there are some registered members with connections to the ODFW/WDFW. Can you guys shed any light on the law enforcement LAMENESS situation? It sounds like officers could have a "field day", both figuratively and literally, this year due to lots of fish in low water; and NO shortage of lowlife snaggers! What gives? - RT

Up here in Washington, you can thank our lame-assed legislators for taking away funds almost every year for game enforcement. They actually put a noose around our wardens, limiting them to 1200 miles of drive time per month.

Because of this, they actually have to choose, in some cases, which violations to pursue and which to look the other way on.
Real effective!

I know one thing, the wardens up here generally WANT to do their job in the worst way. But they are continuously frustrated by the restraints put on them by the idiots that run this state.

The poaching scum know these limitations all too well and use it to their advantage constantly.

It sucks!

I'm excited to hear that someone was busted this year . For the officers in hunting enforcement, I've yet to be checked in at least 15+ years of hunting elk, deer, and birds across the state. I've been checked twice in 20+ years of fishing all over the state. If I was a poacher, I'd move to this state and take up residency. Still, don't giveup reporting these scumbags and put peer pressure on them whenever and wherever you are, it does work. I just got back from hunting in eastern Oregon and some members watched a hunter from Portland shoot and kill a doe and then attempted to leave it, still alive and suffering. After a verbal thrashing we forced the hunter to finish the kill, packup all his stuff at night and drive back to Portland. We told the two of them to never showup again or we would report them. One guy was almost legally blind, yes, this was the hunter that did the dirty deed. He had to be taken to the animal to put the kill shot in because he could'nt see it at about 15 feet. Scary, isn't it? I know it was an accident and the doe was bewtween 2 bucks, but it ****** me off that people can't seem to do the right thing. The money the state could make off fines and proprty seizures could pay for the officers. On a side note, I got a nice thick-horned 3-point, 16" spread with eye gaurds .....now it's time to catch a few more salmon to round out the package. Keep it up and put the pressure on!!!!!!!

Eagle creek has always been a hotspot for snaggers. Last year they setup a sting there too and nabbed a bunch of snaggers in one weekend. Next weekend guess what. No snagging going on to speak of. Bonnie lure park seems to be the snagger magnet. People are so dumb they actually snag them right at the roadside. Jerk, jerk, jerk! All day long like nobody sees them or like it's legal there because half the other morons there are doing it. I will never understand the fascination with it and I don't really care to. Snaggers should be fed to the fish!!!! Thanx for the opportunity to vent.

Forget Bonnie lure, all the action is from the Bridge at Snuffin rd to the Hatchery, overheard at Thriftway, Estacada, a lowlife trying to sell 30# of eggs for $3.00/# the lady OSP officer walked into the upper falls today, still over 150 vehicles in the area, 50 at Snuffin Bridge...a sting is really needed...Still need an EMERGENCY CLOSURE..any body listening?

Those snaggers, if the same ones, were turned in by a good friend of mine. He drifted the Clack without a nibble, frustrated, he and some other guys he was with went up to Eagle Creek. What he saw up there pi**** him off and he called OSP. He might have to go to court, but said it is well worth it! You can only take so much of that crap.

I think a 12 foot sturgeon rod with 100# tuff and a large treble hook mounted in a truck bed would be a good set up to catch snaggers. Imbed the treble hook in a ham sandwich and hand it to the snagger and tell your buddy to "hit it" and then after being drug around by thier hand or whatever part of the body they were hooked in see if they will ever snag again!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know exactly what happened on the Kalama. But went up there Sunday the 8th not a single ripper at the campground by the freeway. I was so happy to see them gone. But I still went down stream to the mouth just incase there were any by the lower ramp. Guess what not a single snagger. Just seals instead. I wonder if the agents finally pounded the snaggers?

I don't snag John, but if you had some invisible leader it would be a piece of "cake" to get a legit mouth hookup on me! I would hit about anything you can buy in a mini-market; just for starters (no special sauce needed ).

These guys need to have the dream of sitting
on a rock by the river. Suddenly an apple
appears next to him. He says, hmmm...sticks
it in his mouth for a big bite and RRRRIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPP.......A huge pearl
belly Salmon in the river rips the hook
into his cheek and proceeds to fight him
into the river......the scene fades and
the Snagger dis-apears beneath the water.
Sorry...old twilight zone flashback or
something.....
