Default Jet Pump extra water?"

I recently had the lower jet unit on my '85 150 Yamaha worked on. Yesterday while on another unsuccessful Springer trip, my wife noticed water flowing out of the area where the lower unit attaches. Basically there is water coming out of about 5 spots around the lower unit right on the seam where it turns from the red lower unit to Yamamha blue. Water is also coming out of a 1/4" dia. hole in the front of the housing right above where the lower unit attaches. It looks like a ground wire or something goes through the hole The boat performs flawlessly, the water pump seems to be working perfectly as the water flow indicator (P-tube) is flowing strong. The flow of water stays basically the same no matter what the throttle setting (maybe a bit more water flowing at a higher throttle). Is this just "extra" water from a new water pump or should there be a gasket there, that someone forgot to install?

Thanks, Dennis

I don't know for sure...so these are just my thoughts.

1) I wouldn't be worried about the cooling water flowing from the P hole. Typically a motor moves PLENTY of water through that hole to sufficiently cool the engine.
2)Performance shouldn't be an issue either, as it sounds like you are moving lots of water through the pump and out the nozzle.

On the other hand, what you describe is not normal. It absolutely sounds like you are missing a gasket, and if water is leaving from where it shouldn't be, then it is definetly entering where it shouldn't be. Get it checked out soon or you might risk bearings in the pump.

I am pretty sure one of the bolts that holds the pump on is missing. This very thing happened to my Yamaha 115. Pull your pickup shoe off and take a look? let us know what you find.

might be the seals going bad as well... do you have a lot of water in your greese line? When mine started to go bad the pump runs great but i had a squirt gun streem of water coming out the little drain hole on the top of the pump.

Update -

I took it in, they said it's fine. They ran it, it performes perfectly, there is no water coming out of the small hole that indicates a problem with the bearing (that was the reason it went in in the first place) I guess I'm just a bit paranoid. These guys came HIGHLY recomended, I trust them and I'll go back (hopefully not for quite a while!!! ) It was just a little water spilling over the pump housing, other than that the moter/jet works better than the day I bought it . I'm glad they eased my worries, for NO CHARGE !!!

Thanks!!

Now if I didn't have to go to a WEDDING SATURDAY!!!
