Lack of Courtesy
Well I have gone 4 days without posting a really beefy subject, so here goes: Sunday morning, my brother and I went down to the Cowlitz River at the Barrier Dam. The Sunday before that, there were a ton of fishermen there, but this past Sunday it was not that crowded at all. OK. I was in the mood to catch a silver or another steelie from my usual spot away from the combat fishermen. This hole has produced well for me. Of course, it's below the Mill Creek cut-off point for boats so the boaters can fish below Mill Creek where I was. Second cast I hook a silver as these 2 cats were getting ready to launch their sled. It was right at 7am and this was the first boat in the water...well of course the jerkies position their boat about 25 yards directly in front of me. They just look at me like " What?" Now this is one reason why I cannot stand boaters, period. It's the lack of respect that someone is already there in that spot. Sure, I was wading and not in a boat, but that does not give him the right to park his boat in front of me. There are a bazillion gallons of water in that river and it seems they love to follow me around. I am to the point where I am ****** and they may just make me resort to fists. I am shaking now because my adrenaline is rushing just thinking about how ****** I was. It was in the spot right where the river curves, so naturally that is the widest point in the river by the dam so he could have easily gotten out of my casting range..ya know about 80 yards away or more...lol The ******** hook a silver right in front of me and both look at me when they do it. Neither of them said one freakin' word and I was pretty loud in my dislike of the whole situation. I am trying to teach my lil bro, who just moved out here from Bama himself, how to drift fish in the rivers. He was probably more ****** than I was which greatly upset me because he hasn't landed a fish yet out here, and this surely doesn't increase his chances. 15 minutes later, 2 more boats launch. One positions almost right next to the first boat, and the last boat was completely parallel with me about 20 freakin' yards downstream of me. There was no way I was going to land a fish if I hooked one by this point. So my point is this....I know that "Purdee" Dodge Ram 4x4 that you drive, and if I see you show up again and do the same thing, well we are going to have words, once you set foot on solid ground, and you probably won't like my advice. 'NUFF SAID.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
Maybe you should fish a little further from the boat ramp. Nothing like getting an attitude from a bankie fishing right by the ramp.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
If you don't have a boat you can't fish near a boat ramp? Hmmm. People with boats who HAVE courtesy would have moved on down river.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
I was wondering the same thing Willie. Net Boy, it didn't sound to me like there was any problem when the guy launched his boat, it was when he anchored right in front of him to fish????? Shouldn't matter where he is.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
Willie & PeterMac,
I did not mean to imply that a fisherperson without a boat does not have a right to fish by the boat ramp. I misunderstood how the boater ended up in Hey's way. The only place that I have experienced bankies fishing off the boat ramp is on the Santiam River in Jefferson. Some seem to get upset when a boat is launced or removed from the water. Being a new boat owner I try to be as courtious as possible without upsetting the flow of fishing. Sorry if my reply seemed to be disrepectful to bankies.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
This spot is not right next to the launch.
I am very familiar with that spot. I have seen guys there when I have just launched my drift boat and always skip that spot then. Those sleds always like to hog line there. If I were you I would have tried to cast over their lines. What comes around goes around.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
I have found that if you remove your hook and put an ounce or two of lead on you line, and then start bouncing it off the side of their boat they will gennerally get the idea. I have only had this happen a few times. It is rare that some would blatently anchor right in front of me. If they want to anchor at a point that would allow them to drift the hole then no worries. If not then start banging away.

You have to use UBB code to post pics. Enlose it in these tags.

I tried to help you out, but got nothing.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
I figured I would get a semi-good response to this post. I appreciate the support, and sho 'nuff I will try and cross lines if it happens again, that, or I will just tie on the size 3 or 4 buzzbomb and start flinging it like a banshee. I was not exactly on top of the boat ramp. I have a spot a little down from the ramp. I have only had one other problem with another boater, but everyone else has always been courteous enough to stay clear of other fishermen. That symbol was at a WCW event back in Panama City Beach, FL I am friends with several of the guys and got DDP to take my pic with several of the people that shared their "cough medicine". Boaters don't own the river, and I wish someone would explain that to them. I guess I am going to be the one to do it this weekend as I am heading back down there on Sunday, but I may fish down in Blue Creek instead to get a feel for that creek since I have never fished it before. I love fishing places I have never fished before just to get a feel for the holes, etc when the crowds are toned down. So far it's paid off. Well anyways...Thanks again to all my fellow bank anglers for the informative "suggestions" to vent my frustrations. Now I share courtesy by not casting when boats are coming in or leaving, so why can't they return the favor by not sitting right in front of me? Because they are "we todd ed"...exactly.

Re: Lack of Courtesy
Hey-Yall;
As a drift boater who frequently fishes Allen Bar, (Directly across form Blue Creek)I wanted to apologize in advance for crossing in front of you with my drift boat. The current flows very strongly directly at the bank and invariably drift boats are nearly swept on to the bank, generally within feet of the anglers on the bank. I would appreciate it if you would not throw buzz bombs, lead etc at me as we are swept by. Thanks in advance.
