Default John Day in late April info

I'm heading over to the John Day around Mitchell 4/28 - 4/30. I'm not familiar with the river in that neck of the woods. Any ideas about possible smallie fishing? If not bass, what might I expect to find?

Thanks --David

Right now the John Day is running 6500 cfs. This make fishing tough as we normally fish it starting at 3000 cfs on down. There are a few chanel cats in the river along with some returning steelhead. There is a good plunking hole just above Burnt Ranch rapids. Might try that if you can get to the river.

Hmm, sounds like a pretty big discrepancy between ideal and actual. Well I guess I might just be chuckin' n chancin'and see what comes up.
Thanks, j.d. -- David
