Default Bass in Willamette Around Eugene?

Greetings fellow ifishers,

Well, I'm usually gearing up for summer steelhead this time of year, but since the numbers coming over the falls are dismal, to say the least, I'm wondering if there are any local alternatives. One thing I've been intrigued about is the possibility of some river bass in town (Eugene). I've caught some native cutthroat and redsides in town, and I know that there are bass (largemouth and smallmouth) in the Delta Ponds, so it seems reasonable to assume that there might be some bass action in the river as well. I also know that the river from Corvallis to Portland has lots of smallies.

I'm not asking for zipperlip spots, but I'm wondering if a day on the bike exploring around town would be worth my time?

I have heard of smallies that far up but only heard of them, never fished that area. Obviously the current is a lot swifter from what I have seen in that area but it is pretty swift around Corvallis also and there are both species in that area in the back waters.

Absolutely! I think that a day on your bike exploring around town would be great for you! Be careful of the traffic.

I've never heard of anyone doing much smallmouth fishing around here. Drop me a pm sometime and I'll take you out. There's good lakes around town that have great boat fishing.
