TIP rewards
Not all are aware their are rewards for turning in violators of game laws. I kind of knew how it worked but didnt really understand it for sure, so I made a couple calls today. Here is what I found out.
The OSP (Oregon State Police) cannot hold the money for the rewards, so it is held by the OHA (Oregon Hunters Association).
OHA raised the kitty of money by holding some events. They even secured a $10,000 donation from Leupold for the program.
The case officer for the violation determines if the person turning in the violator was instrumental in making the bust and gets to approve or reject the reward for the person turning in the violator.
Their is no hard and set dollar amounts but I was told it kind of goes like this
Elk - $500
Deer - $250
Fish or bird - $100
The Oregon State Police always asks the judge to require restitution from the violator. They dont always get it, but usually the judge requires the violator to pay the amount awarded out in rewards on their case back into the fund.
Dont be afraid to do a good deed and make a few dollars. Turn in the bad guys, they are not really hunters/fisherman, just outlaws who are stealing our natural resources. Call 1-800-452-7888 to get a hold of the TIP program.
I am sure we would all call the police if we caught a thief breaking into our car when we returned from fishing. Using the same logic we all should turn in a thief for stealing "our" fish. Just because they camoflage themselves in boots and a fishing vest doesnt make them less of a thief.
