Good Tuesday everyone. Well I haven't replied or posted in several days, but after reading the thread about banning gillnets...I figured I would offer some expert advice on how to "raise an issue".

Coming from the South (it will rise again..it's true..lol), whenever someone wanted to raise an issue, heck they got "COMMUNITY RESPONSE". Not raising people's eyebrows with this next comment, but living out here for more than a year now, it has really come to my attention that Washington lacks that - "Community Response" This BB is a great place to raise an issue, but it really doesn't score points in the RESPONSE aspect of the issue. I hear alot of voices, and I know there are evenmore ears visiting that gladly read posts so here's one to take to HEART. I am in the process of making several documents, petitions if you will, that I am going to copy and nail up on every message board at a supermarket, wal-mart, boat launch, bait shop, and every other thinkable place that someone might see. It might start aggravating store owners, but if someone hears a voice everywhere they go, then eventually it will get stored in their subconscious no matter if that person is no longer speaking to them in an outcry. I STRONGLY URGE EVERY PERSON ON THIS BOARD TO THIS AS WELL. I am not saying to go door to door with it, but if that is what it takes, then by all means do so.
Formatting your petition to where it catches the eye is the first key. Make your subject title be in BIG BOLD PRINT. Next have maybe 1-3 paragraphs pleading your case as to a jury. End it with a Thank you or An Entire Species Thanks You...you get the point.
I suggest you make it out to be several pages to where folks can sign their names, print their names, and have an optional field for their email address or other tidbit. Page one should have maybe 50 slots and page 2 set up the same way where the signee can flip the page up. From experienced petition gatherers they say that if you have more than 50 on a page, then just having 10 signatures out of 500 slots on a page will make the person feel weak and more than likely just say nya I don't wanna look like a geek, and walk away. When I finish my form, I will email it to those interested so they can use the same format, or just print it out, etc. You can notify several different clubs and organizations i.e. "Friends of the Cowlitz" and I know probably every river in the Northwest has a local chapter like this, if not, create one. See where gillnetters have money and big business.......We have heart and the desire. If it doesn't pass this year, then keep hounding the issue every stinking year. Politicians listen to money, but they also listen to the voices of the people that put them in office because they would really hate to hurt their chances for re-election.

Any feedback or suggestions is appreciated.
