Default .45 LC in a .410

Have seen/heard posts as well as discussion over the gun counter that a person can fire a .45LC through a newer manufactured .410 shotgun, similiar to shooting .38's through a .357 ... was curious about this as have a newer "snakecharmer" type .410 that would get more use if I could get a credible confirmation as to this ... and when I mean credible, I don't mean your brothers friend who knows a guy at work who's drinking buddy overheard a converstation while pumping gas who did this once but now is dead with a gravestone that says, "It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time ..."
Thanks.

Taurus builds a new revolver that shoots both. 45 long colt, and 2.5" 410. That probably won't answer the question though. However, I did just call an old gunsmith I know, and he said "quote" I wouldn't recommend it!"
Might be best to contact the MFG.

Good luck!

For a LONG time now, T-C has made .45 Colt/.410 barrels that accomodate 2-1/2" or 3" .410 shells.

They have a special "Choke Tube" that's made to STOP the spin imparted by the rifling.

You don't want to shoot the .45s in there with the tube "in"!

There are 2 versions of this barrel.

One with the good "pistol" sights the Contenders normally come with.

And the other...the one with the big (shotgun) bead on the front and a rudimentary "V" notch on the rear, all on a wide Vent Rib (gotta keep the "intent" in place here ).

You can pretty much tell which barrel's for which.

They HAVE to do this because smoothbore pistols aren't legal (since 1934).

Rossi makes a .45 "rifle" that with an adapter can shoot .410
Kinda the opposite of what you are seeking......

I wouldn't do it unless you talked to the gun manufacturer. Or it said it was OK on the side of the barrel.

I'm gonna say NO!

Reasons:

#1 A 410 shotgun bore probably has a forcing cone and the bore is probably not .45 cal.

#2 A 410 shotgun chamber and barrel may not be designed to handle the chamber pressures of a 45 LC.

The pistols and rifles that will shoot both are designed to handle the 45 LC and they just leave an extra long freebore(part of the bore with no rifling) to allow for the 410 shell. I would immagine the 410 wad is quite loose in the 45 barrel much like shooting a 12 guage with a 20 guage reducer.

... after one retailer told me it was discontinued and another wouldn't order it for me, went to GI Joes and the gun counter manager cheerfully wrote it up and priced it within $1 of what the retailer who said it was discontinued told me it was sold for ... will have in 7 to 9 days.
We'll see how it shoots
