Default Holy Moly!!! Pummeled from above!

Sheesh, the birds were getting knocked out, the dogs were bleeding, the leaves are stripped off.......

Well, an Oregon hailstorm isn't quite that bad, and no injuries actually were witnessed here, but the streets and the yard was completely covered with some larger hail than normal for Oregon. The dogs would not leave from under the eaves, the Bandtails and Doves were hiding under larger branches of the trees, and the streets were completely white. Lots of lightning and thunder-boomers, as well! Did you have it too?

I know, I know....the midwest/southwest/etc. has golfball size hail... Native Oregonian here, okay?

Saturday afternoon around 5pm on I5 about halfway between Eugene and Albany the hail and rain was so bad I couldn't see out the windshield, couldn't hear the stereo, thought I was gonna just drive off the freeway! I can't remember ever seeing it hail that much, that hard, and that big for so long. It lasted at least 10 minutes straight of insane hail with rain - pretty scary!

I was fishing. But the worst was definately in the late afternoon on the way home. I was driving up the 217 around Walker when the radio cut out and we had a nice deluge of rain and hail.

I recall about 10 years ago, while working as a fireman in Hermiston, we had a major hail storm come through (Baseball size hail!!) Took out all of the windows on the west side of our station, went on a few head injuries from people who could not get out of the storm fast enough. After the crisis was over, we rode around the district in the engine and ambulance checking out the damage. The new car lots took a beating, especially the Dodge pickups!, It was obvious that dodges are built with much thinner sheetmetal then Chevys and fords. Most of the surrounding watermelon and cantelope crop was destroyed. Travel trailor lots were really beat to crap, Houses with aluminum siding faired no better, houses with vinyl siding had holes all over the south and west walls where the hail punched through the plastic and the cost of new shingles tripled in price overnight!

WOW!! Baseball size hail in Oregon....
Bummer about the Dodge sheet metal. Is it thicker in the late 90's?
