Default What's your hook & line?

I'm just curious what everyone uses when it comes to Fall Chinook. I've gone from 12# test to 40# and now I'm using 25-30# Maxima UG for mainline and leaders. It's easier to cast than the heavier stuff. I like Gammy hooks of course but I actually prefer the VMC hooks in the 3/0 to 5/0 range. So what's your hook and line?

Yup, 25lb Ultragreen w/ Gamagatzu's, right around 4/0. Have not played with hook color yet, usually red. I use Maxima UG on all my reels, good stuff. Has everybody done thier rain dance yet? -Gary

Depends on water conditons for leaders of course. For clearer water I'll use 20 or 25 lb. UG Mazima, and when the water gets a little colored I like the slightly tougher Chameleon Maxima in 25 or 30 lb. (it stretches a tiny bit less too, for sensativity and quick hooksets). In snaggy tidewater some guys use 40 lb leader to tug the fish away from the snags (and anchor ropes ). For main line I love the new Spectra type superbraids for their great strength, thin diameter (gets plugs deeper and you can use less weight for baits in current), longlasting durability (sun, water, and pulling out of snags don't bother this line's strength much), it's lack of stretch for greater sensativity and quicker hooksets. and for floatfishing it stays on top of the water to see it better and for eaasier line mending. I use the 30 or 40 lb. versions for 'Nook fishing. For steelhead driftfishing the 20 or 30lb. superbraids would be great, except they take a little getting used to casting with a levelwind reel (and don't pull out of snags directly from the spool because it bury's the line causing backlashes and untangling - wrap it around your coat covered arm or similar). For summer steelhead or low clearwater winter steelheading I use 8 lb. UG Max mainline and 6 lb. UG for leader; increasingly on spinning reels again nowdays. - RT - BTW, you 2 guys can't catch fish anyway, so what differrence does the line make? (jk )
