Tax Day - Monday 4/17
Everyone Git-R-Done?
I wish the post office was open now. That way, no one could accuse me of waiting until the last minute. Guess I will just have to wait and mail everything tomorrow. Wish it was the return, but it is just the extensions and a couple of checks.

I sent my $245 donation on Friday. I hope the Feds don't spend it all in one place.

Re: Tax Day - Monday 4/17
Boy, that online version of TurboTax is sure a timesaver!
I was skeptical initially after using the program years ago and really not liking it.
But it's a whole 'nother game now.
I didn't intend to file electronically, planned to print & mail, but it was so simple I went ahead.
After doing the Federal joint 1040 and schedules, I spent a little more to do the Oregon taxes, and knocked them out in like 5 minutes.
If I gotta pay, at least I can reduce the time spent in pain! And no trip to the Post Office.

Turbotaxed it a few weeks ago and the bucks have been sitting in my account waiting to be spent.

My father-in-law sold his 2 buisnesses last year and his accountant esstimated his taxes about $40,000.00 less than what they are. Now they are scrambling to get the $$$$. Time for a new accountant.

Re: Tax Day - Monday 4/17
Here's how my tax day went. Got my last extension out to the client at 11:00 today. Our office closed at 12:00. At 12:30 we were at the Raccoon Lodge having burgers and beer. Got home at 3:00 and started getting ready for the nap I have been waiting 3 1/2 months for. The phone rings. Its a client. She is elderly, in poor health, and bedridden. Somehow she has lost her Federal return that I sent her two weeks ago. She owes tax and I don't want her to get a late payment penalty. I put my shoes back on and drive from my house in NE Portland to Beaverton and reprint and assemble her return. I then drive out to King City and help her sign the return and write the check. Then its off to the post office to mail the return. Finally, I go back home to NE Portland just in time for dinner.
That nap will just have to wait another year.

Re: Tax Day - Monday 4/17
I've used TurboTax for years on our personal returns but this year I tried the TurboTax Business program instead of having the CPA do our business taxes. I thought the program worked great! I had to do the same amount of preperation work and inputing the information was very easy. The output product was identical to what I usually pay the CPA $400-$800 for, but the program only cost me about $100. I also think I now have a better understanding about deductions for next year, something my tax guy never shared with me in the past.

I could have paid to upgrade to a larger boat this year.
But instead I think I paid enough to support the war for another year.

Re: Tax Day - Monday 4/17
Since I have nothing nice to say about Multnomah County's TAX-WASTE-TAX SOME MORE-WASTE EVEN MORE mentality, I'll just say " "
Federal, Oregon, County, and Property taxes are completely unreal in these parts! (and I'm a native oregonian)
