Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
We did some landscaping this summer, sure hope it works!
I'll keep you posted with pictures if you want me to.
If you want to see flood pictures from our 500 feet of river front property say *I ...
Our home sits 21 feet. It sits well above the high water mark. Our shop will be just fine also. We'll be just fine here!
In 1996 the water got 19 feet here and our house sits 21 feet.
Thanks,
Marie

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
I'm scared. :depressed:
The newspaper guy couldn't deliver the paper, because the culverts are full and overflowing onto the road. There are sticks and logs in the road. That is why slides happen. :depressed: I have called the road department, but the kids can't get to school.
Now, for the scary part. As of 6 PM last night, we had had 3.90 inches of rain. I got up this morning, and we have had another 3.53.
Bill is trying to drive to town and he says it's scary. If he is scared.... YUP. I am too!

I remember watching chum salmon swim across the Kilchis River Rd. from my school bus in grade school. One of my favorite memories. Hope you all get through this safely with no harm to your properties. Wish I could be there to see it!

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
We are stuck. I'm glad I didn't send the kids this morning, because the Kilchis road has a slide on it now that is not passable at this point.
Raining solid, 3.85 more inches on top of equal to that the last 24 hours.
Just saw a car back up the entire length of the Kilchis road in front of me. Guess he couldn't make it.
I have plenty of food, and my family is here, so I feel OK about everything. Hope the farmers and their cows do well, however.
Jen

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
When my grandma was a girl, the canal next to her home used to flood and everybody had to wait it out upstairs. She would catch fish out her bedroom window. You may get to do the same soon Marie. Aside from the safety issues, aren't storms cool?! Got caught in a tropical storm in NC a few years ago. Sailboards were flying through the air like missles. What a rush!

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
I know this is serious, and I hope that no one gets hurt or suffers too much damage, but I never see water over a road that I don't think of Jennie and that story she told of trolling out of her car windows. Wouldn't you have just loved to see a car-load of girls with rigs out the windows, happily trolling down the highway.
Right now we're all praying for your safety though.
Thanks for the pics, Marie. Keep 'em coming.

Hope all are well and that the damage is minimal.
Skein, I'd forgotten about the "chicks up cricks" trolling story. Fishin' with a true Ford fender?
Maybe we can get Jennie to resurrect that story -- after the water goes down.

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
More, please!!!
Travis of Fins, Feathers, & Furs lives up there as well. He's on the other side of the river and may be landlocked even longer than Jennie.
Good luck to anyone who may be affected by this storm. I am kind of amazed by the drastic tone some are taking, though. You would think by some of the reaction this is the first time it's ever flooded in Tillamook. Pretty sure it did this last year, and nearly ever year before that. You live at the coast, it's gonna flood once in a while.
Again, I hope nobody suffers any from this. Keep the pictures coming though, it's always interesting to see what's actually going on.

10 more minutes...
Looks like a chromer, springer? Or it may just be a small wave/wake of some sort...but the fish is good wishful thinking. Wow, high water is very impressive, natures uncontrollable power...

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
Yip, that was a lot of fun, trolling the Necanicum down hiway 101. Haven't done that in a while. Looks like it's possible today. Think my boys will go for it, or should it only be girls? Marie, wanna go?
Safeway is about 2/3rds water... We have always kindly referred to it as "Lake Safeway"
I have some pictures, but I'm doing some serious downloading of files today, and have to wait till that is finished.
I'm getting upset because my favorite leaning tree is leaning into the water, and looks like it's going to give. :depressed: Right where I fish and lean!
It's under, about 3 feet, and leanin' hard!
HOLD, TREE! HOLD!
We have now had another 4.03 inches of rain, since 6 last night.
Marie, on with the pictures. I'm bored!
Jen

If you look close at the road picture you can see a steelie holding in the left lane.

I hope that everyone who is praying is saying the right prayer and NOT asking for more rain.

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
Looks scary we're having the same problems here in Grays Harbor.
Move the computers to higher ground. From the pictures it looks like the phone lines will be OK.
Fortunately God made us waterproof.
Hope all is well.

This is in Jennies back yard. The HWY 101 Kilchis River Boat Launch!
Notice no one is launching today! Can't imagine why not!

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
OK, here are a couple pics of my backyard. Both are accesses where I usually fish. The first, is a place where I usually stand to cast, the other, a trail down to the creek. (BIG RIVER!)

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
looks like the fall eggs (now fry) are on an expedited trip to T-bay.
Winter redds? Depends on the degree of scouring and silt deposition. Fingers crossed. Summer Steelhead redds may suffer the most and Winters are still spawning. (well not at the moment.
Marie, Jennie - Isn't this sort of a normal "annual" thing for the greater Tillamook area or is this extraordinary?

Re: First Flood pictures -to Jennies house
It happens pretty much every year. However, I am shocked at the volume of rain we have had. It seems to be draining better than I would have thought.
I have some more pictures, but I don't have time to post them right now.
We could easily jump on the trampoline and super dive into the river right now. FUN!

Jennie and Marie, your PFD's may become part of the Tillamook fashion. Don't go out without one.
