Default upper deschutes

Has anyone heard whether or not there are any steelhead up to trout creek/warm springs area? I have a friend in the Bend area itching to take his boat down the deschutes for steelhead. I fished up from the mouth for a day last Wen. and my uncle caught a 30" bright fish on a fly first thing in the morning and lost one on a plug. My dad caught a darker, small steelhead w/ a fin clip on a plug. All I caught was a small chinook jack on a blue fox. I thought the fishing would be alot better for this time of year. I stopped at the park below the deschutes to see the fish caught on nets. I was amazed at the size and numbers. :-( Huge steelhead! I saw a 37" steelhead brought in w/ a net rotting along w/ hundreds of other fish sitting in the hot, hot sun in the back of a pickup bed w/ no ice! They'll teach us eh? It was discouraging.

Hey Evan,
The water was perfect on Wen. sept. 20th. Then we got up early Thursday and got upstream before daylight. As it got light, we could see we should have stayed in bed. It always amazes me how quickly the river can turn like that. Less than a foot of vis.. I never heard how long it stayed like that. It usually takes a good three days to turn greenish again? Good luck. I'm gonna try Tillamook instead.
