Default Toothpaste?

OK, I've seen it all! I was out fishing the mouth of the Deschutes last weekend. We were trolling plugs as was everone else. I noticed one boat that came out late(8am), the guy put toothpaste on thier 4 plugs. They trolled a whole 5 min. FISH ON! Landed a 10-15 lb steelhead(Keeper). They put the plugs back out....maybe 15 min, FISH ON! Smaller wild fish. Anyone have any idea what brand works best? We did get into a couple on sat. one 16 b run keeper. On Sun. we had 5 to the boat, 1 keeper 16.5 lb.

Try mild peppermint flavored ones. That's what we used to clean older spinner and spoon blades with and went out and caught fish with that scent still on them.

I have scents that come in tubes that look like toothpaste, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to mistake it for the toothpaste. YUCK

I've fished with Bob Toman Till. Bays' #1 spinner puller and he uses toothpaste. I use "Crest" and do just fine. Phunybonz, was it Bob Toman out at the Deshutes you were talking about?

Tom's Of Maine puts out a fennel flaver thats alot like anis, i've used it with good success. It's available at Natures and natural food stores. I started using toothpaste (after fishing with Tollman on the Clackamas) on my plugs and to polish Alvins & spinners

Hey Moleman, The boat didn't have the guide sticker on it and the same people were in the boat both days. Thurs.& Fri.was REALLY slow. Would have needed more than a little toothpaste. Hey, maybe fish don't like my beer breath? If so, I think i'll take up bowling. Bye the way, the guy did mention something about Crest. Just about went back to camp. Just so happens, we caught a few without.
