Default Jig Heads ?

At the last TA meeting I bought some fish traps from LOOKASTAR. I forgot to ask about jig heads.

I see in Chromers post with all his tuna gear that the heads have red or white eyes.

My question is does one regurlarly out perform the other?

And where would the best buy be?

Thanks, Bob

Buy a mold and a melting pot and make your own. Very easy to do and the money saved quickly accumalates!

Bob, you can get the good jigheads at Englunds, or mail order from Charkbait. The unpainted work just fine, although I do "on occasion" like to use a certain jighead painted green on the sides, and black on the top, to go along with the green swimbaits.

One thing to be aware of, when trolling swimbaits it is better to use the thick-wire hooks, sometimes labeled as "tuna tough". These have the tinned finish, versus the black or bronze finish on the thin wire hooks.

Hope that helps.......... MM

We bought the molds and hooks and poured our own. Our larger sizes(1 to 2 oz) have the heavier tinned hooks as Mark mentioned. I plan on buying some of the thinnner wire hooks for our casting jigs.

I found the larger eyes (3/8") at Cabela's. As far as color goes I don't know if it matters Some days it might. I have heard that having the eyes does make a difference though.

ODIN,

Englunds in Astoria just got a shipment of jig heads in. They are the type Mark alluded to. The jigs and fishtraps haven't been priced and stocked on the shelves yet. Bobber Down and I put a nice dent in their supply but they can get more.

I just bought 100 1 1/2 ounce swimbait jigheads (unpainted) with the Mustad "black nickle" hooks. I only need half that many, but had to buy the bag as I was at a mold manufacturer. If anybody needs some at wholesale, PM me. I can send pictures.
