Newport Salmon 4/13

[Salty Walty]

We were out tagging rockfish on Wed and one of the other Charters was fishing a couple hundred yards from us and boated a #20 chinook. The Bar was open yesterday and I had a few hours. I headed South about 4 miles and trolled North to the Red and white buoy. I tried spoons, Apex, flasher and hootchie and bait. I was in 100-110' of water and fished from 25-80'. No luck but the water was in great shape 52-53 degs with some good bait and fish marks and a few birds. I was the only one out there trolling so it would have been more luck than anything but it was good to be out there. We were marking bait on the tagging trip too. The signs are there now all we need is some good weather on the weekends and a few more fish. I also saw some bait on the FF in the Bay. I am going to give that a try next week if I have time.

Walter.....you must have been the BW center console that NR Ace saw crashing thru the surf... :shocked:.

The Newport Marina store charters have been picking up a few salmon here and there while bottome fishing. Chris told me 3-4 a week.
