Default 2001 IFish Fishing Party/Campout

Already thinking ahead to next year and thought we should start planning. I know everyone agrees that Bill and Jennie did fantastic setting up the first IFish party and campout. And if they'd like to host another, great. But, that takes time and work and I hate to see anyone spending that much time with all the prepartions. Unless of course Bill and Jen are already planning. :-)

So how about we start a list of ideas for next year??

I already heard warmer nighttime weather would be nice. With that in mind........
how about a Astoria sturgeon fishing, camping trip during late June or middle July? Just trying to avoid the July 4th weekend. We could make this a Friday through Sunday trip, breakfast and lunches are on your own but dinners are IFish parties. We could also hold a fishing tourney each day.

Another idea would be head east of the mountains and do some lake fishing and camping. Just pick a spot.

As always, for those not wishing to camp, hotel, lodge accomodations are always nearby.

Any other ideas?

I would love a chance to go to a ifish party
if,I know far enough ahead of time,I will sign up for a floating holiday so that my wife and I can go.If we start to plan one now
we could get a date by march of next year we will for sure be able to go and maybe more people can make plans and go,it would be great if everyone could go if they wish.also if its far enough ahead of time maybe we can find a place that can handle everyone maybe we can all kick in some money and rent some property or something ?? Heck I'll even take a vacation for it.

Great idea, with that time of year the Sturgeon fishing should be going good and the weather is usually good too. Also, the non boaters would have time to get on boats or charters for the day.

It is a great idea. I for one would be willing to take a bigger part in preperation as well. If its far enough in advance I would also schedule some vaction time around it. Ive never been sturgeon fishing, but Im willing to try any kind of fishing. I met some really nice people this weekend, and Im sure there were many more that couldn't make it.

Thanks Pilar, that would be great!!!! I still have a challenge on to beat my son's salmon he caught this weekend. He doesn't think I can do it. I know I will. Plus I cant imagine getting one of those on the end of a rod.

Luvtofish, 3 sizes on sturgeon. Shaker, Keeper and Peeler.

Shaker is less than 42" and messes up your bait. You can tell because you can stop him with your thumb on the spool of your reel.

Keeper, 42" to 60", if they don't change the rules again. You can tell this one too cause when you try to thumb him your thumb gets hot. Really good eating at 45" or so.

Peeler. Oh Yeah! Your reel will sing Opera and the rod will make sounds you've never heard before! You will have to chase this bad boy wherever he decides to go or give up all of your line. Don't use your thumb, it will smoke. Biggest I've boated is 11' 1". Use a whole shad, 11/0 hook, 80lb tufline and a 3LB LEAD in really fast water!

The Portland winter fishery is mostly the first 2 categories. Go to Bonneville in August for the big daddies. Don't forget to pack a lunch before chasing peelers.

The bend is your friend!

Luvtofish, hold that thought. In about 2 months sturgeon starts in stumptown. About Feb or so it hits the peak with the smelt run. I'd be happy to take you out to the river and show you how it works.

Sturgeon is my main deal all winter and its a kick in the pants.

Hook, are you volunteering for party coordinator? How can I help? E me and I'll help any way I can.

Count me in!

I'll bring my boat!

I would have liked to been there this year but I had put on the anual bottom fishing trip for the crew at work and just had to go rip some lips with the guys and gals from work. It was great! Several doubles and some real nice fish.

Pilar,

Where is Stumpland?

I would be interested in spliting expenses and catches if ya wanna go.

Keep me in the loop and lets put together a great family get together!

Springtime also brings in Peelers , Keepers and Shakers in Tillamook Bay, add that to some good Spring Chinook tides and you're talkin' !!! -Marty

Mr. Fisherman. I'm referring to the Portland Metro area. My dad's term, 'Stumptown', He hates clearcuts. In Alabama, where he lives they think Portland is in the National forest or the mountains or something.

We fish the Kelley Pt. and surrounding area for gators all winter. At least until the Springer chasers and fair weather boaters mess it all up.

Thanks for the offer but expenses are minimal. I'll settle for interesting fishing companions. There is a catch though. Everybody brings their own bait. We stay up to all hours of the night wading in the freezing cold Cowlitz to catch it every February.

There is a saying that Ammo is always more expensive in the field. Last winter I had a guy offer me $20 FOR A FEW OF MY BAITS! This was during a fishing derby, shortly after I dialed in the winning 58-1/2" fish. He didn't realize that I was sleep deprived after dipping smelt for most of the night.
