Default Installing GPS antenna under console

I installed my GPS antenna inside the cuddy last year and it worked very wee. This year I added another GPS to hook up to the Radar and here is an pic of the antennas.

Thought someone my be interested in the protection that is being provided for the antennas.

I agree. I'll keep my GPS antenna out in the weather, in clear view of the sky and take my chances... after all, that's what they're built for.

I contacted both Furuno and Hummingbird before doing this installation. Instruction by Furuno and Hummingbird tech supports advised one way to protect the antennas from the sun and weather was to istall under the fiberglass deck as Signal Strenght is not affected by fiberglass . This is certainly a no no with alum. or steel boats.
The antennas are located in front of the windshield allowing full 360 coverage. Test have resulted in six to eight sats being picked up while traveling. I'll do some testing shortly with both antennas under the cuddy and post some results.

As long as you do not have metalic paint or any other non-RF transparent material you should be good
