Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
Does anyone have one of the XD's yet? I looked at the XD 45 and couldn't believe how comfortable the grip was for a double-stack 45. It fits my hand better than any Glock. I'm looking for pros or cons as compared to other polymer frame pistols: Accuracy, durability, function, etc.
Thanks, SetNet

Re: Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
Having handled almost every 45 made, I like what I see in the XD. A little slimmer than the G21's slide, same basic design.....super simple. Comparable weight, should be just as accurate, good sites, good 1911 grip angle. not much to dislike.
I know you'd like it....better buy one!

Re: Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
I'm thinking about getting an XD as well. I'll have to check it out. I have a Ruger P-series. I just have one question. What is the theory behind the saftey(s). The trigger saftey is the reason that I have always shyed away from glocks.

Safest pistol design made, but if ya pull the trigger it goes boom. No pistol should be left around kids anyway.
So I consider it a non-issue.

I have shot the XD 9 and 40. The trigger pull stinks on these guns..IMO Just something to think about.

Re: Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
Good point, that is the one thing I don't like about them.
Kinda why I haven't wandered far from my smithed 1911's.
BUT for most needs the glock style "safe action" striker fire design is nearly bomb proof in reliability and safety.
I've worked over the triggers in glocks and they can be improved, there're also a handful of drop in groups that can be a big improvement. I can't say as I've seen such trigger parts for the XD...YET, but they will come with time.
If you have never shot a fine 1911, you won't find the XD objectionable. But if you have shoot a good 1911 much, the XD will seem sqwishy.
My advise....got to a range like the "The Place to Shoot" and shoot some differant pistols and see what fits, feels right, and you like. Good gun fit is 90% of shooting. If it doesn't fit you won't shoot it as well.
Good luck, have fun and I hope this helps,

Re: Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
I was lucky enough to have Springfield take us to the range and shoot all the XD's, the 45 was only a concept then but we gave it a thumbs up.
The double action trigger is a little hard to get used to for me, but I'm a dyed in the wool 1911 man. Other than that I was pretty impressed.
I liked the full size a lot better than the compact ones, the little grip made it hard to control, and the short slide made it a little more jumpy.
The plus'es of the gun, lifetime warranty, longer slide rails than a glock, smaller grip, and double safety mechanism, as well as about a hundred dollars less than the Glocks. Also they now come with a kydex holster and double mag holder.
The downside is the trigger, no aftermarket as of yet.
Hope this helps. I'm in no way affiliated with Springfield.

Re: Springfield XD Pistols/ Opinions?
The XD is what the Glock could have been....
I've shot the XD9 TAC and the XD45 and I like the grip and pointability of the pistol. The trigger is average but not really all that different from any of the other tupperware products. Doesn't even come close to a 1911 SA or the Para Ord LDA trigger. I heard that some have had problems with slides prematurely rusting. Click here for HS2000 & XD Forum for more info on the slides. The HS2000 is the original design, from Croatia, that the XD is made from.
Take a look at the Khar P45 for an extremely nice, out of the box, trigger.
As for safeties, the one between the ears is the most important. Doesn't matter if you have 1 or 12, on a gun, you can still end up shooting yourself..... A good holster is also very important for rentention and protecting the trigger. The Uncle Mike's Sidekicks are a good example of what not to get.
