Default egg recipes and bloody eggs

I remember there were nearly a gazillion egg recipes posted to this board last year. Did anyone save them? I would like to put together a web page of folks' different egg recipes so that it is an easy reference for everyone. Perhaps RT might have them archived as he is the administrator or perhaps Jennie?

Also, I was wondering what the effects of bleeding your catch has on the eggs. I have heard that it improves the eggs but I haven't heard exactly how. This is one additional reason not to buy eggs from gillnetters (that's all gillnetters folks) as they never bleed their catch.

Sandy,
Greetings!

Bleeding the fish has an enormous impact on the quality of the eggs in my opinion.
I have had days when the other boats weren't getting more than wet eggs that my boat has limited. I believe that it is due to my eggs and the quality of them....Pilar will testify to the fact.
Think about this....when a fish raids a nest, or catches free-floating eggs, do you think that they are all bloody?....No, they are virtually if not completely blood-free. So why would they take some yucky, smelly, bloody, rotten eggs over those that are beautiful?....RIGHT!...They WON'T!!!
Bleed the fish at once, before whacking and stacking and your catch on eggs will improve. Cure has some impact as well, however, everyone has their own formula.
As for my formula, you'll just have to fish with me to find out.....

I'd Rather be LUCKY than GOOD!!

Hi Eric. I agree with KF's mention of quickly bleeding fish for both better eggs and better eating meat. I have an article coming out in the upcoming Oct./Nov. issue of STS magazine, about Tillamook Fall Chinook in which I gave out an effective broad spectrum egg cure. Also use the search feature to access the old Discussion Board. I have more of my tech posts back on the old DB, than on the new BB I think, so scroll back down to 12/18 and read my egg curing posts and follow up posts with it. I have from time to time given out a number of curing tips also that weren't included in the original posts (such as putting sardine filets in some of the chem released egg juice cures so some of the oil gets absorbed into the egg sacks along with the egg juice reabsorbtion- and leave great egg cured filets for Kwikfish) . I don't know how well the search feature works but you might try "eggs", "egg cures", or try "RT" posts. I have another egg tip I will post tonight, but it is not as comprehensive as the former ones. - BTW, thanks much Eric for your efforts on behalf of fish and fishers via the Sandy chapter of NW Steelheaders! - Steve
