Will you guys quit it? :)
Ifish nearly crashed last night at 5:40 or so, due to too many people on the site, doing requests.
I have to buy some new RAM today. I don't know when it will be installed, but until then, go easy on ifish, K? Gentle!
I keep thinking that I have bought enough server, bought enough space, but no! You guys just keep on talking and talking and talking!
Honestly, it's great! But, just let me catch up for a bit, OK?
If it really does increase like it has been, I'm going to be forced to go to Threads, like it or not.
I know, some of you like it, some of you don't, but I will promise you that I will make Threads as close to our home UBB as I can.
Cha-ching,
Jen

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
Sorry, Jennie, I'd like to help but I just can't stay away.
But in seriousness
Is it the sheer number of requests, or do the pictures throw an additional load on the system? And are pictures that have been uploaded to ifish handled differently than pictures from other sites? What I mean is, I post my pictures on my space on my ISP, then link to them instead of uploading them onto the ifish server and displaying them that way. Does that help, or is it a push?
If we can't stay away, are there other things we can do to help?

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
Skein, it helps to upload your own pictures, but the main problem right now is that UBB is a perl driven resource hog. (Oops! No personal slams on ifish! I'm sorry, UBB! That sounded bad!)
Anyhow, what happened last night was that several people were trying to post at the same time. Response time was really slow, so they pushed on "send" again. Pretty soon, multiple people were sending muliple requests to ifish, and it died.
Then, we were came back up, many people's posts came up in duplicate or triplicate!
So, as long as no one posts, we will be OK! I'm kidding, of course. It may happen again, but we made it through. RAM to the rescue, soon!
You bunch of perl driven resource hogs! LOL!!!
I'm going crazy. Can you tell?
Ifish's hits are up 25 percent, over the last three months. It makes sense we need an upgrade.

Sorry 'bout that Jen! Hey, have you guys had any problems with that worm that some joker sent out recently? I know that some boards have...

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
I've only heard of the e mail worms that are new.
No problems on ifish, so far. Thank God.

Sounds like we need the SPRINGERS to show up in huge numbers so people are fishing rather than "ifishing"......

Hey Jen you should build your own server. Really that type of stuff is easy. Don't pay to have your ram installed, do it yourself.

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
I have my own server, but it still costs to buy it.
I can't make RAM yet. I'm working on it, though.
Got my pliers... my mono... my swivels, I'm almost there!

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
BTW Jen, what was the outcome of your post regarding threads? If going to threads makes it easier for you to manage this site then I bet most iFishers would not oppose it.
One more thing...is there any way (threads or current system) to do a spell checker? Would love to see that enabled on this site

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
I think it's the season/weather. It'll only get worse this week(end) if the rain comes like it's forecast and the rivers are all up in the trees, and we're all stuck at home "virtually" fishing. Should get better as the conditions improve outside, so we can all get out and actually fish like we're supposed to instead of just talking about it.

Re: Will you guys quit it? :)
We have no choice but to go with Threads some day. I am stalling, as right now, I'm so busy that I can't even keep up.
Threads will make the site run better, but WILL NOT be easier for anyone to run, really. It's complicated learning a new system, no matter what the change.

I'd like to help too, but I am addicted. I love this site. There are some really great people, and even when the flames start flying, its interesting. Thanks again Jennie!
