Default Ocean Mis forcast

I am guilty of occasionally checking the NOAA forecast for the Columbia River area. I seem to check it more often as May 1st rolls around. It doesn’t seem to be improving significantly so now I look for trends…… you know, it’s down to 8 and 12 from 8 and 20. And my spirits start to pick up…… “You know this could be something”.

Yesterday the NOAA forecast came out at 3:00 in the afternoon and for Wednesday it was 2ft wind wave and “LESS THAN 1ft SWELL.

I have planned for emergencies like this for over 25 years. 25 years ago it was “ Honey I can’t be with you when you are giving birth, “I….. I….. ah….. There is an emergency at work and I have to go” Now it’s “ I’m sorry Doctor, but I am going to have to cancel my heart surgery for this Wednesday, will Thursday work for you”

After seeing the forecast, I Jumped up from the computer, banged my knee, hard, on the desk, limped into the kitchen, checked the calendar. None of my organs needed transplanting on Wednesday, I was good to go!!!!

I called “Smoked Salmon” (Bill), and left a message on his machine “WENDNESDAY IS 2 AND 1”. I headed (limping) for the barn and got in the boat and started throwing out all the Springer gear. I only broke one rod in the process. I began loading my 60 lb crab pots all 6 of them, pulled some big muscle in my lower back. I began tying ling jigs, and shrimp flies for Jetty fishing. Those hooks I had sharpened didn’t hurt too badly until tried to remove one with an extra long barb.

So now I’m home from the urgent care clinic, ( 8:59 pm) , knee with a cold pack, back with a hot pack, thumb and finger bandaged. I check the forecast again and to my shock and horror Wednesday has gone to 4 and 9!!!!!

OK so here is my question. Can I sue that sadistic [petunias!] at NOAA for my broken rod?

Bob

Unlike you, I am always checking the ocean forecast (I lead a boring life, except when I fish) and saw that Wednesday forecast also. Because I was a little skeptical, I checked the South Oregon forecast and saw it was 2 and 8. I decided that either the 2 and 1 was an error or that it was going to be a really interesting ocean at the border of those differing swell heights. I opted to consider it an error, a conclusion that was proven to be accurate with the next forecast. Oh well. However, if you want to feel sick, check out the Extreme South California forecasts where you will frequently find forecasts like 2 and 2; 2 and 3 or even the occasional 2 and 1 and those aren't errors. The North Pacific isn't too often friendly as we all know.

DipSea Diver just came into the computer room to see why I had fallen off the chair. All I could do was lay on the floor holding my sides.

I laughed 'til I hurt. Good one.

Bob - you are always good for a great hoot!

Also, if your cell gets text messaging, I can send the forecast to you via your cell hourly if you like!

No springers today, fished Brownsmead area. Heard one fish caught all day.

Dean, well hit the jetty Sunday if'n it quits blowin.

Bob, sounds like my morning, got up to let the dogs outside at 2:00am to stop them whining. Somebody left me a calling card right in the middle of the kitchen floor. Hell yes, stepped right in it. Now I know why they were whining.

We need a special thread on ifish for the funniest posts of the month or something. Maybe the mods could set it up and no replys to the special thread but only to the original post.

I was lucky to avoid hearing about the ocean until after it had changed back to normal.

It did inspire me to absent-mindedly go to the airport to pick up my aunt and uncle last night at midnight.

When I got home at 3am, alone, I rechecked the itinerary only to discover I had misread it. Back to the airport tonight then.

I need to go fishing. Some fresh salty air will clear this foggy brain. I'm sure of it!
